Sanji was in front of the building where the four boys should be living. Fortunately, he knew where Zoro lived thanks to the contract he had to send. Now that he thinks about it, he wonders how the idea of a contract even crossed his mind. It must have been the stupidest idea of his life.
For days, he'd been blaming himself for what he'd put Zoro through. He had taken the time to step back from the situation and think things over. How could he have made such a mockery of someone's life? He wanted to beat himself up for everything that had happened between him and Zoro.
Zoro was an incredible person. He was strong and had probably suffered terrible things, as his scars proved. Yet he always put the welfare of others before his own. Thinking last for himself. He had a determination that Sanji envied. He never gave up. But that evening, for the first time, Zoro had opened the door to his feelings. He had lowered the wall, protecting him from fear. He had begged Sanji not to do it, to stop everything. Something he had never done before. But Sanji was too enervated by what he had seen and his feelings that he hadn't even paid attention to. He hadn't even listened to him. Sanji blamed himself terribly. He wondered what Zoro must have felt. Fear? Surely, he had seen it in his eyes. Disgust? Yes, a strong feeling that he must have felt for Sanji. But he was sure that Sanji was only touching on the green-haired man's feelings. And he wanted to know how much pain he cause. No, more precisely, he needed it to know.
The call with the old man was the electroshock he was waiting for. He didn't remain a second before getting his suitcase ready and leaving the house some days earlier for the airport. He had to act now. The longer they waited, the more ashamed and disgusted he became. He needed to get everything off his chest. Even if, in reality, he was still completely confused about what he wanted. All he knew was that since the little family had left him, a hole had appeared in his chest. A hole that had been there for years and that they had tried to fill with multiple dates and then with Robin. But it had never really worked. Yet on this trip, for the first time in his life, he felt full. Happy. As if everything had suddenly made sense.
So, here he was in front of their house. He didn't know what to say to them. Well, he would let his feelings out. That's what he wanted. He was ready to beg for their forgiveness. He was in front of the house, but now he needed to enter the building, which would be more difficult. He came here the second the flight landed in the city. He didn't take the time to change or take a shower. Maybe he should come back later? No, it wasn't the time to be afraid. He needs to be strong. He screws up, so now he had to clean his mess.
He saw an old woman leaving the building, and that was his chance.
"Let me help you." He told her kindly by holding the door for him.
"Thank you, young man." The old one thanked him, already charmed by his smile. "Are you looking for someone's flat?"
"Well, indeed. Do you know where Zoro, Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper live?" He asked, rubbing the back of his head with his hand, a little ashamed.
"Oh, the Roronoa boys. Of course, they live on the third floor, third flat." The old woman answered him.
"Thanks!" He replied happily and left running. He took the stars, not having time to wait for the elevator. And finally arrived, in front of the flat the old lady told him about. He waited a second, taking all the strength he could, and finally knocked on the door.
That was the moment he would finally see the green-haired man again. He missed him so much: his silver eyes that could read you like an open book, the way he pats Chopper's head when the little one isn't alright, the way he grumbles at Luffy after a silly thing, the way he listens to Usopp talking about his new invention. He was finally able to see him again. Maybe even all of them.
Of course, he would be mad, but that was OK. He was going to change his mind. He was capable of it. He could be a stubborn man when he had an idea in his head, and now what he wants it's to have them back at home. Whatever it takes to.
After long minutes of waiting, which fell like hell for the blond, the door finally opened. Letting a little head go through the door jam.
"Hey Chopper!" Sanji said excitedly. Chopper looked at him surprised, he rubbed his eyes to make sure it wasn't a dream. He never thought he would see the cook again in his life. Not after how they left him.
"Sanji!" the little one shouted with a smile when he saw that it wasn't a dream. He was going to hug him, but finally stopped in his movement when he remembered that they were mad at the blonde. Sanji felt his heart squizzed at the rejection. But he didn't show it and maintained his smile, despite feeling sad when he took a step back.
"Hey, can I enter for a second, please?" Sanji asked with the softest voice possible. He needed to apologize to Zoro first. He needed to talk to him. Then, he would be able to talk with the boys. But the priority was Zoro.
"Hey Chopper, who's at the door?" Another voice called in the flat. Chopper opened the door for Usopp and Luffy to see the individue who had knocked a few minutes before. And from there, everything started to fall apart.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?" Luffy shouted.
Usopp and Chopper looked at the floor sadly. Of course, the two youngers missed Nami and Sanji because with them, they were kind and fun. Thanks to Sanji, now Chopper knew how to swim. And Sanji was always willing to listen to Usopp big stories without complaining. But for Luffy, it was different. Sanji knew he would be the second most difficult person to convince after the main stakeholder. But at no time had he imagined that he would be the one to push him away. But Sanji should have known better. Luffy was very careful to protect Zoro.
Luffy was as furious as ever. He would never forget the look of despair and sadness Zoro had given him in the bathroom, and for that, he would never forgive him. Every day, he saw the bags under Zoro's eyes increase as a sign of his insomnia. Every day, he saw him struggling to pretend everything was fine and smiling at the boys as if he hadn't been so hurt. But Luffy knew it was all a lie. He could see it very clearly. So he could never forgive Sanji. Even if he loved his food and he was the best cook he knew.
"Hey guys!" Sanji said, patting his head, a little ashamed. His motivation slowly diminished when he saw the reaction of the boy. No, he shouldn't give up at the first sign of trouble. He was here to change their mind, and he would do all he could to make it happen.
"We were really clear back there; you are not welcome here." Luffy shouted angrily at him.
"Guys, please listen. I just want to talk to you all and especially to Zoro. He... I ..." Sanji said. He was going to say he missed him, but it wasn't the good thing to say at that moment.
"YOU WHAT? TELL US!" Luffy shouted angrily. Sanji had never seen the young straw hat like that. He was going to be more difficult than what he imagined.
"Luffy, who the hell are you shouting at? We don't want to have problems with the neighbours." A voice behind Sanji said. This voice. It's been a week since he heard it. It felt like a sweet melody to hear again. He missed his voice, too. She was rock and sharp but sweet at the same time. He was just behind him, so Sanji finally turned around to see the green-haired man. He couldn't keep his mind from just in front of him.
A bag full of groceries prevented Zoro from looking at where he was going and who Luffy was talking to. He put it on the ground to finally see what was going on. When he raised, Sanji and Zoro looked at each other for the first time in a week. They each froze, taking the time to examine the other. Sanji could see that Zoro had lost a lot of weight. But for him, he was still beautiful. He was contemplating the other man's body when a little whisper made him snap from it.
"Sanji..." Zoro whispered.
