Wriothesley's POV

My pulse quickened as I raced through the open fields, each stride a desperate bid for freedom. The vibrant hues of nature surrounded me, a stark contrast to the monotony of my fortress. The wind whispered secrets as it tousled my dark hair, offering a tantalizing taste of freedom—a precious gift in a world so often devoid of it.

Every breath I drew felt like a gulp of life itself, a stark reminder of the suffocation I endured within the Fortress walls. The sun's warm embrace offered solace, its gentle rays breaking through the oppressive clouds that had long shrouded my world.

With each step, I felt the weight of my confinement lift, replaced by the urgency of a mission.

I should hurry.

I was heading to the opera house with hurried steps, a frown etched upon my face.

Why?

Simply because it was raining. Delicate droplets of water cascaded from the sky, tapping against my black umbrella in a soothing rhythm. Despite my confinement within the depths of the Fortress, I found solace in the gentle patter of raindrops—a reminder of the world beyond the suffocating walls.

Yet, today's rain felt different. It crashed upon the ground with a ferocity that mirrored the turmoil within a broken heart. The thunderous claps were so loud that they nearly drowned out the tiny sobs and sniffles of the one who was hurting the most.

The Iudex. Just how much pain weighed upon his soul for it to rain so heavily?

The thought spurred my hurried steps, as if racing against time itself. Minutes slipped away like water through clenched fists, but still, I pressed on. At last, I stood before the imposing door that guarded the Iudex's office. The opera house, usually a sanctuary of elegance and artistry, felt strangely muted today—its halls devoid of the usual laughter and melodies, probably because the Melusine workers were outside, twirling and dancing in the rain.

I paused outside the door, taking a moment to compose myself. Despite my best efforts, the worried expression on my face and the dripping umbrella in my hand betrayed my attempt at composure.

With a steadying breath, I knocked gently. "It's me, Wriothesley. May I come in?"

My voice echoed in the corridor, but there was no response from within. For a brief moment, I hesitated, not wanting to intrude if Neuvillette was occupied with official matters. But the silence stretched on, prompting me to try again.
