Albedo's POV

The white card in my hand read: You are invited to the Mondstat Ball.

Only women are invited! We guarantee that our queens in Mondstat will spend a night full of fun!

A party would be nice, but...

I placed the card on the table and looked at the pile of books in front of me.

I have a lot of work to do. Besides, only women are invited.

I sighed as I picked up one of the books in front of me. I was still working on research regarding some dark ice that mysteriously appeared on the mountains of Dragonspine, but I couldn't find any useful information regarding the topic in any of the books I was reading.

"Master Albedo?" A sweet voice called. I immediately recognized that lovely voice. I was so occupied with reading that I didn't notice her entering the room.

"Yes, Sucrose?" I said, not taking my eyes off the book. Maybe—just maybe—I would finally find something useful within the pages.

"O-Oh, um... can you... look at me?"

Huh? What a strange request.

I placed the book down on the desk in front of me then turned towards her.

The sage green of her long dress graced my eyes. Translucent cloth that slightly revealed her skin formed her short sleeves and neckline. A darker shade of green cloth wrapped tightly around her waist—narrowing it using a golden lace corset belt—and draped gracefully around her small frame, ending at her ankles. Golden flowers embroidered her dress, as if the dress was a grass field decorating itself with sun-kissed petals, turning what once was a mediocre terrain into what millions of words failed to give justice to half of its beauty.

She looked... wow.

I felt heat rush to my cheeks. The longer that I stared at her, the more this weird feeling grew within me.

What was happening to me?

I looked away from her and back to my book.

"You look... pleasant," I replied.

That's all? Pleasant? She took my breath away and I dared to call her "pleasant"?

"Really? Thank you, Master Albedo. It means the world to me," Sucrose said, flashing me one of her usual smiles.

"No problem. Are you heading to the party?" I asked.

"Yes, with a friend."

Ah, a friend? She rarely ever talks about her personal life, so I didn't really know about her friend.

I turned to her and gave her a soft smile. "I see. Stop working on the research today and enjoy your time. Tell me everything when you return."

"Sure, but..." she sighed and rubbed the back of her neck nervously, "my friend who I was supposed to go with suddenly turned down our plans. She said that she wasn't feeling well. I was waiting for her to arrive to do my... makeup, but I guess not."

"Why don't you do your makeup yourself?" I asked, curiosity evident in my voice—not trying to sound offensive, of course.

Her face turned into a light shade of red. "I.... I don't know how."
