This is set like way in the past btw

*3rd POV*

It'd been years since the woman had gotten to be around anybody else. Ever since that curse was put upon her, she hadn't been able to be near people without turning them to stone. Everyone called her Medusa (a woman who had suffered the same fate some years ago), and told their children to stay far away.
The poor woman, Greece, felt betrayed. She didn't know how it happened; Hell, she wasn't even conscious when it happened. She just wakes up in a temple, hundreds of snakes in her hair, and they turned everyone near her to stone.

Greece had been an optimist before her curse, so she believed surely something good would come from this... right?

The snakes and her had (thankfully) taken a liking to one another: Greece fed them and kept them safe, so the snakes made sure nothing would happen to her again by turning everyone near to stone. She wasn't a fan of what the snakes did, but she knew they tried.

Every now and then, Greece would have to go out looking for food. She and the snakes couldn't survive off of fat forever. Whenever she'd have to go out, she tried to cover as much of her body and hair as humanely possible as to not add another statue to the city she resided in.

This time seemed no different. She covered up everything (even her hair, much to the snakes' dismay), grabbed her large basket to put food in, prayed she wouldn't see anyone, and left to try and get food. The path leading to the forest (where she got most of her food) was right next to her house so she didn't have to venture too far away and possibly run into people.

She knew the path by heart, so she allowed herself to zone out a bit while she walked. She thought of the old days when she got to be with her brothers and sisters. She remembered Crete... he was the first to succumb to stone. He'd always been there for her and tried to protect her as much as he could. Of course, there are some things not even the people who are willing to die for you can put to a stop.

When Greece first was cursed, she ran home to try and get help, not knowing what would happen. Crete was the first she saw and turned into stone right in front of their other siblings. His statue had crumbled in an earthquake, so any imaginary way of bringing him back was completely gone.

Something snapped her out of her thinking. Ever since the curse, she became much more aware of her surroundings. She prayed that there was no one coming on the trail. Unfortunately, there was. It was a short woman, with lovely white locks that came to her shoulders. She seemed to be struggling a little with getting around. Greece thought for a second that she should go and help her, but quickly realized what danger she was putting her in.

"Oh no..." Greece whispered, "Go! Stay Back!" She tried to run backwards while putting her hands over her cloaked hair, but fell onto some rocks jolting her hood off.

"Why? What's going on?" the woman asked. Greece wondered how she didn't understand that she was in danger. The woman started to slowly walk forward before asking, "Are you okay?"

Greece just sat there confused. Why wasn't the woman turning to stone? She looked at her fully exposed snakes, and they looked back, almost as confused as Greece was.
"Wha-" She started to ask.
"I can't see. Where are you?"

"What?" Greece asked, still very confused and not processing what was going on.
"I'm blind. Where are you? Are you okay?" The woman responded, almost as if it was a normal day for her.
"I-I'm fine. You're blind..." Greece said, suddenly realizing blind people would suffer nothing from the snakes, just like deaf people and sirens.

"Yes. Is that a problem?" The woman crouched down and started feeling around for Greece before Greece placed her hand on the other's.
"No, but... I'm Greece..."
"Oh. You're the one they call Medusa?"
Greece internally sighed. She shouldn't have expected anything more. That was what she was known for: From Gaul to China, she was Medusa.
"May I pet your snakes?" the woman asked shyly, "I've always wanted to since they wouldn't do anything to me..."

Greece gently took her hand and put it close to the snakes so they could smell her first. The snakes seemed pleased and slithered as far as they could onto the woman's hand. The woman squealed with pure joy, even though she couldn't see the snakes.
"If I may ask, what is your name?" Greece asked, somewhat hesitantly.
"Cyprus. I come from the southeast." The woman, Cyprus, answered, still smiling at the snakes in her hand.

"What are you doing out here? Surely you shouldn't be out without a guide."
"They were busy and I wanted to come into the woods for a bit." Cyprus seemed to sense Greece's confused face before continuing with, "They can be a bit stressful."
"Oh. I understand. My brothers are- used to be like that."
Cyprus hummed in response, before going back to petting the snakes.
"Do you, uh, want to stay at my house?" Cyprus had a mix of an amused and confused face at that. "Like, because you said your family's stressful and no else lives with me so..."
Cyprus grabbed her hands, before pulling her into a hug and saying in a small voice, "I'd love that."

They chatted a little longer, before Greece remember what she had came out here for in the first place. Food. She didn't want Cyprus to have to walk alone, so Cyprus tagged along while she grabbed some food. Usually when Greece did this, it was always eerily silent. That wasn't a problem this time, however. Cyprus had so many questions about the snakes.
"What kind are they?"
"It varies."
"Do they have names?"
"Two of them do, Herald and Gerald."
"Do they have fangs?"
"Yes, don't ask how I found that out."

Cyprus had such childish joy and wonder, which made Greece smile more times than you can count. It felt like she was turning into her old self again.

Sooner than later, Greece had to head back home. It was starting to get dark out with how long they'd been talking. Cyprus came along and had even more questions, though not about the snakes. She wanted to know how things looked, so Greece tried to channel her inner philosopher to tell her about them. It's much more difficult than it sounds, but she tried her best and Cyprus seemed to love it.

Once they got to Greece's house, Cyprus seemed more than worn out, almost falling asleep on the other's shoulder. Greece quickly cooked up a stew so Cyprus could eat and go to bed. Cyprus was incredibly grateful and still had a few questions about some things. Though, they were about things that were more serious than Cyprus thought.

"How come no else lives here?"
Greece tensed up remembering what happened to her siblings. She wasn't certain at first if she wanted to tell her, but figured it was better to tell her about something serious than keep her in the dark.
"They, uhm, turned to stone when I first got cursed..."
"Oh. I'm sorry about that."
"It's okay, you didn't know."
"C'mere." Cyprus said, while gesturing to herself.

Greece came over and quickly got pulled into a cuddle.
"This always makes me feel better," Cyprus said, almost asleep.
Greece smiled and gently played with the younger's hair. It was almost like silk and bounced up and down when Cyprus walked. It looked like the goddesses' hair that Greece worshipped. In Greece's eyes, Cyprus was an angel sent from heaven. This was her savior sent from the Gods.
