TW: Mentions of war

Ukraine quietly walked through the streets of Paris, trying to shake off the intensity of the recent UN meeting. Her brother, Russia, had snapped at her and told her he wished she had never existed. She knew it was fueled by the stress of trying to take care of his ailing mother during war, but it still hurt.

She slung her arm around a nearby bench and sat down with a sigh. Her boyfriend, Canada was supposed to meet her around this area soon. He said he had a surprise for her. She hadn't the slightest clue as to what it could be, but knew that whatever it is, Canada would find something that she loved.

As she sat and waited for her boyfriend, she let her eyes wander around the park. Gold tinted trees luminesced in the light of the rapidly falling sun. Beautiful daisies sprouted from everywhere that there was even a sliver of dirt, and large cherry blossoms hovered over them, every now and them dropping small flowers in the wind.

Her eyes wandered to her left, where the park ended and numerous shops appeared, she watched the humans do their everyday things: Eat at restaurants, play with their children, walk their dogs, laugh together...

It all reminded Ukraine of the unrest back in her own country. She softly closed her eyes and imagined what it'd be like when the war finally finished.

While she daydreamed, a tall man with silky long hair sat next to her, gently tapping his legs as he waited for her to open her eyes again. As he waited, he smiled at the serene look on girlfriend's face, hoping that his surprise would give her the same feeling. (no this is not smut-)

Ukraine slowly opened her eyes only to see two fingers in front of her face, holding a cherry blossom flower.

"Op!" she exclaimed in surprise. Canada jumped in surprise too before closing his eyes and giving her a sheepish smile. "Okh, one of these days you're gonna give me a heart attack, Nada!"

"Sorry love," he said, pulling her short hair back so he could tuck a flower in. "Alright, we'll have to start walking real quick here to make it to the surprise, but first-"

He started to rummage in his grocery bag before pulling out the one thing that would make Ukraine do anything.

A dill pickle.

"You didn't!" she said, smiling widely as she snatched the pickle and gave him a hug. "Oh my God! If this is part of the surprise, then it's already amazing!"

Canada deeply chuckled before saying, "I mean, I really shouldn't have gotten you that. You eat wayyy too many pickles for a normal person."

"Oh but Hungary can eat two boxes of Cheez-Its in one UN meeting, but nobody cares?" Ukraine said while starting to munch on her snack.

"Love, he's old. Like, has probably defenestrated Roman Empire old. I dunno about you, but I don't wanna be throw out a window."

With a jump to his feet, he stood up and offered a hand to Ukraine to help her up. He grabbed the shopping bag and started to head in the way of the surprise. Canada started to think about how much she'd love it and started to smile, thinking about how she'd react.

Ukraine, however, was much more fixed on the plants that were all around them.

"Ooh! Look at those water lilies! I'm surprised they look so vibrant considering they should go dormant soon."

She looked back at Canada after admiring the flowers for a few seconds more, and was greeted with a kiss on the forehead. Ukraine blushed and asked what had gotten into him.

"I'm telling you, as soon as you can, you've got to go into biology. America's sister, St Helena did and she loves it. I know you would too."

"Yeah... I'd probably want to go to Toronto for school."
