Xaden vs Dain

Date: 2/19/2024 I am currently on Page: 493 of Fourth Wing in the Empyrean Series. This short story will only be based off my knowledge of it so far.

(Xaden and Violet had barely survived the battle against the Venin and their Wyvern. After healing, Violet and Xaden decide to confront Dain for his actions. Xaden finds Dain first, and decides to give him a piece of his mind).

"She's alive." Xaden says calmly. At that moment he would've loved to truly give Dain the death he deserved, but he wanted an explanation. Anything- mostly for Violet's sake.

Dain whipped around. "Riorson?" He acted like he couldn't believe he was standing there. "How were the war games?"

Shadows curled around the two of them, as he glared coolly. "Fine, you?" Dain swallowed the noticeable lump in his throat.

"Fine. We didn't win or anything," Dain mumbled.

"Neither did we," He raised an eyebrow. "A certain fortress was evacuated and a certain... a group of Venin attacked us." Dain pretended to be startled.

"Venin don't exist!"

"Really?" Xaden took a step closer, too aware of the multitude of daggers at his own side. He could kill Dain in a single heartbeat. But first he wanted to crush him for what he did to Violet. He continued, "Two riders and their dragons died. We were unable to save many of the citizens."

Dain shuffled backwards. "Venin?"

"I think all of us are aware of your power-" Xaden was suddenly interrupted as Violet rounded the corner. Hurt was in her eyes, which was quickly hidden by seething anger.

    She grabbed a dagger and hurtled it towards Dain, missing him by only a millimeter as he dodged the attack.

    "You're breaking the Codex!" He complained, "You can't attack somebody with your own-"

    "I know the rules!" Violet retorted. "But do you, Dain? Because I think you attacked me, didn't you? You were going to let me die!"

    "He's a traitor!" Dain cried out, "And I think he's making up this mated dragon thing! It's only five days. He's only doing this whole act of being nice to you to get back at me!"

    "Really?" Xaden widened his right eye in surprise. He glanced towards Violet before letting out a little smirk. "She chose me, not you."

    "Violet," Dain pleaded, "You know I had to do what I thought was right. He was breaking the-"

    "Stop talking." Xaden said, "That's an order, Aetos."

    "Come on Violet, how long have we known each other?" Dain knew he was in a precarious situation. One wrong move and the shadows would strangle him, or a bolt of lightning would turn him into ash.

    Violet looked away and towards the cobble ground.

    Xaden smiles softly, almost sympathetic. ""You begged her to kiss you, she begged me to fuck her."

Violet chuckled in agreeance- that was a good punchline. Sgaeyl landed with a thud beside Riorson, and a moment later Dain was gone in a burst of flames. It was well deserved.
