"She's is beautiful," Rathsgale whispered. Her daughter lay peacefully, her scales a golden shimmer. "We must make it back for her."
"We must," Agreed Yarlinth. "We must make it back here for us, and for her."
But they never did come back. The venin killed them.
Tairn sighed, "Sgaeyl, I don't think they're making it back here." His tail twitched. "I've known Rathsgale since my last rider. We fought on the front together. I owe him, he saved me twice. Once when a horde of venin came to us in the sky, and the second when my wing was torn and I fell."
His mate nodded her head solemnly, the blue daggertail standing from her position. "We should raise their daughter."
"Yes," Tairn agreed. "They deserve to die in peace, knowing that Andarna has been well cared-for. I owe them that."
