Chapter Fifteen: Midnight Memories
As sleep continued to weave its gentle spell on Geetanjali, Shubman stirred from his dreams. In the quiet of the night, he found himself looking at Geetanjali, who was peacefully asleep with her back facing him. Leaning over the tower of pillows, he observed her serene expression, bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the window.
Geetanjali, who usually wore a serious or angry expression, now had a calm look on her face that brought a smile to his lips. The scent of the lilies she wore transported him back to the feeling of being sixteen again. Observing her blanket hanging off the bed, he took a moment to adjust it before settling back down on his pillow and gazing at her.
The first flower someone had ever given him carried the exact fragrance of Geetanjali. Yet, he knew it couldn't have been Vasisth herself who had presented him with flowers. After all, he had only met her seven years ago. Throughout his college years, he made every effort to uncover the identity of the person who, with an apology, had stolen his heart. Regrettably, his search proved fruitless. Yet, he remained convinced that the giver was a girl; after all, he reasoned, it was doubtful for a boy to present another boy with a flower.
Even on the last day of college, he persisted in his efforts to find the mysterious girl, but his attempts proved futile. It seemed like a lost cause. That same year, however, he encountered Bhumika, whom he believed to be the love of his life, someone he thought would stay with him forever. With Bhumika in his life, he gradually let go of the idea of discovering the identity of the girl who had given him flowers, considering it a chapter closed. After ending his relationship with Bhumika today, the fragrance of lilies that had once captivated him came back to life today. He shook off the thoughts and decided to sleep, knowing that a long day awaited him ahead, and dwelling on those thoughts was pointless. The gentle waft of lilies seemed to have a soothing effect on him, and he allowed the familiar scent to lull him into a peaceful sleep.
After a few hours of peaceful slumber, the clock struck four, prompting Vasisth to open her eyes. Determined and focused, she got ready early, preparing herself for the crucial mission tasks that lay ahead. After taking a quick bath and dressing, Vasisth went through the empire map, preparing herself for the mission to locate the hostages. As she glanced around the room, she noticed Gill still sleeping. Deciding it was time to wake him up, she leaned over him and gently patted his biceps, stirring him from his slumber.
His breath caught in his throat as his eyes fluttered open at the sight before him. A pair of mesmerizing grey eyes met his gaze, framed by cascading open hair, still damp from her recent bath. He remained motionless, captivated by the beauty before him, oblivious to the gentle taps on his biceps. It wasn't until a cold drop of water from her wet hair landed on his face that he snapped back to reality.
