Chapter Thirty-Three: Patience Gets Rewarded
After Shubman left Geetanjali's house, the next two days were incredibly busy for him. He had to deal with the divorce procedures, including hiring a lawyer in case Bhumika decided to act irrationally. Meanwhile, Anamika was full of energy, jumping around the house in excitement for the upcoming holidays. Convincing his parents to join them for the holiday was a challenge, as they wanted to focus on bonding just the three of them first. Even Anamika's pleading puppy dog eyes didn't sway them, as they were firm on the idea of letting the trio bond before spending time at the house with her. During those days, Shubman couldn't communicate much with Geetanjali, except for exchanging "love you" with morning and night messages.
Right now, he stood in front of the mirror, tucking his sea green polo knit t-shirt into his pants. As he was about to put on his jacket, a voice interrupted him, "Daddy, wait." He turned to see Anamika running towards him, gesturing for him to sit down. He bent down, and as soon as he did, she took the jacket and went behind him. "Now, put your hands in, Daddy," she said. His heart swelled at her princess-like gesture. Shubman couldn't help but smile as he watched Anamika's small hands struggle to guide his arms into the sleeves of the jacket. As he straightened up, feeling the jacket settle comfortably around him, he glanced at Anamika's beaming face in the mirror.
"Thank you, princess," he said softly, ruffling her hair affectionately.
"No Daddy, wait," she said, climbing onto the dressing table. Digging into her frock pocket, she retrieved the Sunflower brooch pin she had made herself. Though it might have seemed messy to others, to Shubman, it was the most beautiful gift. With careful precision and her tongue sticking out in concentration, she pinned it to his jacket.
"That's it, now you look more handsome than ever," she declared, standing on her tiptoes to plant a kiss on his cheek.
She then put her hand on her mouth and giggled, saying in a whisper, "And Aunt Gia would melt looking at you."
He gently tapped her back and chuckled, "Oii missy, teasing daddy?"
Anamika giggled mischievously, her eyes sparkling with playful innocence. "Maybe just a little," she replied, her grin widening. Shubman couldn't help but laugh at her antics, feeling grateful for these lighthearted moments amidst the busyness of life. He tousled her hair affectionately before scooping her up in his arms.
Anamika's laughter filled the room as Shubman peppered her cheeks with kisses. "Daddy will be late, so sleep early, and no mischief, okay?" he said, his voice gentle but firm. Anamika nodded eagerly, her excitement still evident despite the impending bedtime. Shubman set her down gently and watched as she scampered off to her room, her infectious energy trailing behind her. With a smile, he straightened his jacket as he headed out to pick up Gia for the party.
As he drove to her place, butterflies danced in his stomach, anticipation building with every mile. He couldn't help but wonder what Gia would wear—would it be the same enchanting outfit he whispered about in her ear, or perhaps something even more captivating that would sweep him off his feet?
He parked his car, ignoring the curious glances from the neighbours, who seemed puzzled by the presence of a man at this hour. But Shubman couldn't care less about the nosy neighbours; his mind was solely focused on seeing Gia. With eagerness evident in his actions, he rang the doorbell in rapid succession, eager to reunite with her.
His throat went dry as he took in the sight before him: Geetanjali stood there in a sleek black dress, the fabric hugging her toned abs and accentuating her strong muscles. The elegant, long dress featured a deep cut near her chest, and Shubman couldn't help but feel a rush of giddiness at her stunning appearance. Geetanjali's confidence and allure captivated him, leaving him momentarily breathless.
