Ben's POV:
I sat, by the river that separated my territory with the Mountain Ridge Pack's, thinking about the attack. "Go! Get Clara out of here!" I screamed to Lucas. They ran toward the pack house and Lucas shoved a screaming Clara into the door with the rest of the women and children. I didn't see, but felt the rouge jump off the roof and land on Lucas, ripping at his throat and killing him. I didn't have time to register it or that Clara was outside and killing the rouge that killed Lucas. A giant blue gray male rouge jumped and tore at my flank. I fell and started gushing blood. It came at me again. And agian. My wolf screamed at me, "Do it for her! Live for her! For your pack!" I was just too weak to fight back. The rouge stalked toward me with bloodlust written on his face. I was as good as dead until Kyle burst out of the woods and came to my rescue. Kyle had surely felt Lucas die, and he knew that he was my new Beta. Giving me time to get off my feet, Kyle and I killed the rouge together. By the end of the fight, six of us had fallen. Kyle's dad, Lucas, Julia's brother Thomas and her father, Jackie, and Tina. The females had failed to get inside before the attack. We gathered them up, and howled as a pack, mourning the loss of our brothers and sisters. I couldn't help but blame myself. Poor Julia and her mother had lost the most important people in the world to them. They didn't even look like themselves anymore. I should've seen it coming. But I didn''t.
I spent the next weeks running non stop patrols. When I wasn't on, I was at the river. When I wasn't there, I was taking care of pack business. Life had become very dull and sad. Everyone was still mourning, and I couldn't cheer anyone up. We needed something good to happen. And Fast. On the third Wednesday after the attack, something finally happened. Both Clara and Julia had found mates. We had a pack dinner with them and I introduced myself. They were both older than me, but showed respect to their new alpha. I liked them already. They were strong, seemed to be good fighters. And with the addition, it gave us 26 members again. We were stronger. Over the next week, everyone buzzed about the new males, but the giddiness and happiness didn't affect me. We were still running patrols non stop, and my mood was getting worse. The pack was starting to talk and I felt bad. But I couldn't help it. After the attack, I had been summoned by the Elders and the Alphas of the surrounding territories. They gave me and the Alphas a choice. We could either wait until the next rouge attack, or go to war. The other Alphas agreed to help me fight, should I go to war, but I didn't know what to do. They gave me three weeks to decide, and my three weeks was up. Tomorrow i would face them and tell them. Tell them what? That I still had no idea? I couldn't do this on my own.
That's when it hit me. Alpha's weren't supposed to do things on their own, they were suposed to have Lunas. But I didn't. Everything started to make sense. My bad mood, the pack talking, my wolf. They were all trying to tell me something. "her." My wolf howled. "Find her." "Who?" I asked it. "What is her name?" It replied with a command "Find Calla."
