Calla's POV:
"Ben, what if they don't like me?" I asked while pacing my in my pack's kitchen. It had been two days since we mated and I was going to meet my new pack today. I couldn't be more nervous. Ben had already explained the Luna's purpose. I was supposed to support his decisions, help calm the pack, and be the comforting one. The trouble was though, I didn't know if I was a comforting kind of girl. I mean, sure I could be there and support people that were my friends, people I knew... But these were complete strangers!
"Calla, for the hundredth time, they will love you no matter what. You're their Luna. It's like a mother-child bond." He explained. "Still, what if I'm really not cut out for this..." I said, starting to really panic now. I had begun pacing even faster than before, almost sprinting back and fourth. Ben grabbed my shoulders and looked in my eyes. He growled and said, "Calm Calla. Calm down. Now listen to me. I know you're cut out for this and you want to know why?" His eyes turned soft as they boared into mine. "Why?" I barely managed to mumble. He pulled me into a giant hug. "Because you are the most beautiful, courageous, and brave girl I have ever met. You're impossibly stubborn sometimes, and you have the ability to grab everyone's attention just by walking into a room. These are all the amazing qualities that you have, and they're the amazing qualities that our packs Luna has now. You got that?" He said. My eyes watered at his words. I was unable to speak, so I just nodded. "And besides," He continued. "If anyone doesn't like you, I'll kick their ass and tell them to suck it up." He sounded like Stephen when he said that. I smiled and laughed a little. Then I pulled away and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. "Then let's go!" I said with new found confidence.
We shifted as we burst out of the house, heading towards the woods. The pack had agreed to meet at the river and then, after accepting me (like I hoped they would) we would run to the pack house. Ben had gotten rid of most of my unease, but not all of it. I tried not to take the cloudy sky as a bad omen as we ran side by side.
When we reached the river, I was surprised to see how many wolves were in his pack. It looked like 30 wolves, maybe less. I think that's the number he had said. Wow, I couldn't even remember the number of wolves in the pack. Great Luna. Ha. Not.
We slowed as we approached the edge of the river. Ben hadn't shifted yet, so I stayed in wolf form. The first wolf to shift was one on the other side. A male who looked to be about 6'2. "Alpha." He said. Ben shifted. "Beta." He nodded to him. It must have been a signal because all the other wolves shifted. The people in front of me all looked very similar. They had Ben's black hair, some had dark brown like mine. Others had blue eyes, again like mine, while some had brown. But no one had the same green as Ben's. Huh. Interesting.
I looked at Ben, asking if I should shift and he nodded. I tried not to rethink what I had worn today. A red tank top, jean shorts and black converse. I shook off my doubts and focused on Ben, who was supposed to be introducing me. Our eyes met, and his looked hopeful almost...proud? The thought that he was truly proud to have me as his mate, his Luna, made me beam. "This is Calla. Your new Luna, and my mate." He said, his eyes still on me. I heard several gasps on the other side and my eyes moved to my new pack. Some of them smiled, others just stared. I tried not to blush or look uncomfortable. "I believe she will be a good- no. Perfect. Luna because she is caring and beautiful and funny. It will be expected that you all show her respect and love, should you accept her." He spoke to them. Now there were more smiling faces. I tried not to sigh in relief. "Will you accept her as your Luna?" Ben asked them. They replied in unison, "Yes, Alpha, we accept our Luna." Then they chanted in a language I had never heard, but understood. They said, "Terra couya na matian. Terra couya la racka. Terra couya bay worn!" Which means, "Bond tie us, Bond strengthen us, Bond be us." The words were beautiful. And with that, I could feel all of them. I could mind speak to them all. And I couldn't feel my old pack. I couldn't feel Bryn, or Steph, or my parents. It was a good thing we all had a long goodbye this morning. I tried not to remember the tears shed. I was glad I didn't have time to dwell on that because I heard what could've been a million voices in my head. "Luna! Luna, Calla! Lunalunalunaluna!" They all cried. I was so started that I whimpered.
"Stop!" A voice said in my head. I thought it was Ben's, but I couldn't be sure. There was so much authority behind it. The voices stopped at once and I was glad for it. I tried mind speaking to them. "Hello." I said casually. I heard them gasp in their minds. "Did you hear her voice?" "I know!" "So beautiful." They said to one another. I looked at them, and they looked at me. I couldn't describe what I felt, but it was definitely love. I loved them, and I knew they loved me. I howled in joy, and they joined in. Then, we all ran to the pack house. Ben and I in front, with Ben's beta at his flank. I didn't have anyone at my flank, so I guess I'd have to choose my beta later.
When we arrived, I just stood there in my human form, mouth agape. Our pack house was so. BIG! It could've been a hotel! It was made of all dark wood. I walked inside and found that the interior was much the same. The walls were all light colors though. Light blues, whites, and yellows. It was simply gorgeous. This was my new home apparently.
Ben yelled behind me, "Pack dismissed, Let your Luna have space to adjust." The pack went off to do whatever they did. Some smiled and patted my shoulder as they passed. That was reassuring.
"Come on." Ben said in my ear. "Let me show you around." I smiled and followed his lead.
The rest of the house was massive. There was at least 35 bedrooms, each having their own bathroom, 8 fully furnished kitchens, 10 living areas, and 4 libraries. It was massive. The backyard was full of gardens and flowers, and there was a lake not far from the compound. To say it was gorgeous was an understatement.
The last room Ben showed me was ours. I was very surprised to see that it looked much like mine, It had light blue walls, with the dark wood that was seen throughout the house, and silver accents. I looked at Ben and smiled. "It's beautiful." I said. "I had it redone just for you. I want you to feel at home here." He said. "Ben, you could put me in a cellar with dead bodies and I'd feel at home here." I replied. He scowled at that. "You know I'd never treat you like that." "Yes, I do know, but I meant that everyone seems to love me.' I said thankfully. He smiled again, "I told you so." "Shut up." I laughed and punched his shoulders. "Oh now you're in trouble." He said with a wicked grin. Then he tackled me on the bed. I screamed and hit his shoulder again. He knew how easily I scarred! I heard his muffled laughter and groaned. "I realize this isn't much punishment." He laughed, still pinning me to the bed. That I had to laugh at too. Then he got off and said, "Come on, lets go socialize." I sighed and got up too. He laughed at me. "What?" I asked. "You looked disappointed." He raised his eyebrows. I didn't respond. To say that I wasn't would have been a lie. He laughed at me and I walked out of the room. He followed me saying, "We can finish later." I hid my face in my hands and he laughed even harder.
He could laugh all he wanted. I would still look forward to later.
