Present Day...

"Arthur Chevy! Wake-up! You'll be late for school!" Rosie shouted as she knocked on her 17-year old son's bedroom.

She was startled when the door suddenly opened.

"Mom, it's Archie okay? And take a chill pill! First day pa lang of school pa lang, for sure wala pang klase masyado." Pilyo pa nitong sagot sa kanya.

Rosie's brow raised at that.

"Anak, you are not in Senior High School anymore! This is the university we are talking about. And I don't want to hear any excuses from you because I already allowed you to have a year break diba?" She reprimanded her son.

Archie was supposed to go to college last year, but he pleaded with her to give him a year off from studying since he is planning on taking up medicine and she understands that it will really take a long time to finish kaya she allowed him.

He and his two other friends Gino and Percy all did it. They spent the whole year traveling around the Philippines.

"Oo na po! Are we going na?" He asked. They will go to the university together since she also works there.

In fact— her family owns it.

Mary Erskine Santiago University has been owned and managed by the Santiago family since the Spanish colonial era; these days they still own the majority of stocks at 30%, making her mother Doña Victoria Santiago the Director of the university.

Isang posisyon that her mother fought tooth and nail to maintain, but that is a story for another day.

"Not yet anak. You still have to eat breakfast pa. Go to the dining room and I will just check on your sister." She commanded and Archie kissed her cheek as his morning greeting and left her in the hall.

They are living in a decent four bedroom house. It is a house that her father gave her ten years ago.

She's been a single mother for 10 years now. She remembered, she was just 26 years old then and it was hard.

Her parents did not support her, they just gave her and the kids a house to shelter them and nothing more. They said she have to work hard for her children and that is her punishment for being a disobedient child.

Sino nga ba naman magulang ang hindi magagalit? She eloped and got pregnant at 18, married the same year without consulting her parents, clearly, she was just reaping what she sowed.

She cannot remember how many times she blamed herself for her mistakes and for the failure of her marriage.

She was just lucky that it wasn't hard for her to get a job because their family owns the university and she's really smart, otherwise, she's not sure kung saan sila pupulutin mag-i-ina.

What she's earning is just enough for the three of them to go by day by day.

Is there another thing she was thankful about from her parents? Of course! They actually had the heart to support her children's education.

"Good morning Mommy!" Her youngest child greeted her enthusiastically.

At 9 years old, Iris may already be her mini-dalagita, but she's still her baby.

"Good morning my little flower! How's your sleep?" She asked her daughter after giving her a peck on the cheeks.

Iris hugged her tightly.

"Hmmm... naglalambing naman ang little flower ko." She teased and Iris pouted.

"Mommy? Ayaw kong pumasok." Mahina ngunit narinig niyang sabi nito.
