Jachin (whisper) Masungit?
Evie opened the door and walked straight ahead. Ipinagpaalam na siya nito sa may-ari pero nag-alangan pa rin si Jachin na sumunod.
Evie opened the gate to the kennels. Agad na nagsitayuan ang mga alaga nila.
Evie These are all our angels for adoption. Some na sa foster home sila and some got adopted na, hence the vacant kennels.
About a dozen pets were there. May aso, pusa, at ibon. May mga reptiles din pero madalas border lang daw ang mga ito.
Jachin crouched down to see the others.
Evie Oh! Look at Lulu! Nung nakaraan sobrang ilap niya sa mga tao.
Evie pointed at the small dirty white dog right next to Jachin who seemed to be jumping up and down.
Evie You can open it. 'Di naman sila violent.
Hesitantly, Jachin turned the knob and opened the cage.
Agad itong tumalon sa kanya.
Evie Aww! She likes you!
Marahan itong kinuha ni Jachin para maayos na mailagay sa kandungan niya.
Jachin Cute mo, ah. Ikaw na paborito kong alaga.
Evie Maybe she knows it's your first day. Lulu is never like that sa amin. Only when we have food.
Umangat ang tingin ni Jachin kay Evie. Sinusuyod nito ang lahat ng kennels to check if everyone is okay.
Jachin Bakit hindi pa sila naaampon?
Evie Hmm. It's different for every animal. Some, mailap sa strangers so people don't necessarily pick them. 'Yong iba, bago pa lang kaya wala pang opportunity.
Jachin So si Lulu hindi pa napipili?
Evie shook her head sadly.
Jachin scratched Lulu's chin and in return, she turned to her belly.
Jachin Bakit kaya 'di ka nila pinipili kahit mailap ka?
Lulu just whimpered softly.
Once done, Evie closed the gate, but not before Jachin could say good bye to Lulu. Hindi naman siya aalis pero kanina pa ito nakatitig sa kanya.
Like she didn't want him to leave.
Jachin (whispers) Babalik ako mamaya. Magdu-duty lang.
Evie smiled when she heard him speak to her.
Evie Naaalala mo si Sugar sa kanya?
Jachin Medyo. Pero si Sugar kasi mostly sa mga kapatid ko close.
Evie bit her lip before gesturing to follow her sa staff room.
Hinila nito ang isang vest na kulay light brown at blue at may logo ng vet nila.
Evie Here you go!
Jachin Uniform natin?
Evie Yup. And to make it official.
Jachin smiled.
Jachin Salamat sa pagpayag kahit wala naman akong qualifications. Mapilit lang.
Evie It's fine! Volunteer lang naman tayo. But why did you decide to join?
Jachin Ewan ko rin. Gusto ko lang may gawin 'pag may time ako.
Evie's stare lingered at him a little longer.
Evie If it will help you cope then I'll be here every other afternoon with you.
