Would You Still Love Me if I Was a Caterpie

You heard someone walking up the stairs.

You were basically done inputting the information you had gotten so far---which wasn't a lot, but it was still very useful information nonetheless.

You slid your phone back down into the pocket and stared at the door. There was a chance you would be left alone, but you wanted to be prepared.

The door unlocked and opened. And of course, it was James.

You looked to him with a glare coated in resentment and spite. You smiled, "Need anything?"

"Yes actually, I do."

"Well, I'm just brimming with the desire to help you."

"Good. Your pokemon won't leave their pokeballs, and I'm starting to think you're the only thing they'll come out for. So you're going to go outside with me and coax your pokemon out of hiding. And don't even think about running away---Jessie's Arbok will be making sure you don't leave."

"Oh joy," you said. "Sounds delightful. But I'm not letting you get my pokemon."

"The more you don't cooperate, the more damage you're doing to yourself," James said. "The more they're left in their pokeball, the likelier chance they'll leave by themselves and run off, and get lost. And then neither of us will have your pokemon." He smiled. "Is that what you want? Your pokemon getting abandoned and lost? Because if so, you'd be much eviller than all of us combined."

"It'd be better than leaving them to be abused by all of you!"

"I am offended! I would never abuse any precious pokemon!"

You'd kidnap a trainer but you wouldn't abuse a pokemon.

You started to get up. You made sure to untie your overshirt and leave in slid under the blanket. "Well, it's not like I have a choice. Go on. Force me to betray my pokemon. I'm sure you'd like that."

James opened the door, and Arbok had been waiting there patiently. James started petting Arbok's head and looked back to you. "What, intimidated by our marvelous pokemon?"

"More like intimidated by...by...ahm..." You paused. "I can't think of anything clever. But you know what? I don't need to, because you both have literally kidnapped me. So I am intimidated! Which is perfectly reasonable in this situation!"

James stared at you. "Okay. Fair. But I'm still going to make fun of you for it."

"Of course you are. Just let me betray my pokemon already."

James started to walk down the stairs, and Arbok waited until you started following him. Arbok trailed behind. Close behind. James said while walking down, "What, you'd rather do that than have to listen to me talk for another second? I don't see how you got any pokemon to like you enough to battle for you in the first place. At least I'm likeable."

"At least I can make pokemon leave their pokeballs. It's like this is your first day working with them or something."

He opened the door. The sun stung your eyes, and you had to look down at the grass to free yourself from it. You watched bugs leap from blade to blade, and hide beneath the dirt. At least they had freedom, you thought before stepping on them.

"Well, I admire their loyalty to you, and their unwillingness to leave. At least that shows you are a respectable trainer after all."

"Well I---what?"

He led you past the side of the house and to the very back. The backyard was small, and mostly surrounded by trees. There was a nice line of shade away from the wall, and you hated it. How nice and soft the grass looked, how dark and spacious it was...
