James was already awake, but strangely, it seemed that he hadn't gotten up to do unimportant things like you imagined he would have.

Instead, he just laid there. Uncharacteristic, but the complaining that you presumed would follow would be perfectly in-character for him.

"So," you said, sitting up, "I'll need your help for this. It's your problem, after all."

He sluggishly got himself in a sitting position with you. His voice was worn and tired from immense amounts of nothing. "Your problem as well. I could stay here forever. I have been forever."

"But you won't be staying. And if you are, the situation is not. Because being so important and powerful, you yourself will be changing everything for the better and being the hero of everything, et cetera, et cetera, happily ever and whatever after."

"Mhm. And how am I supposed to be doing that?"

"Ah yes, I forgot, yours truly will be the most important part. I'm assuming you want me to make you a plan of some sort?"

"I was...expecting that, yes."

"I've never been very good at that. I wouldn't think you'd see me as a...very thought-out individual."

"You seem very figured out for someone who hasn't planned anything."

"I planned everything out a long time ago. Then I gave up."

"Seems like it."

"But there's no time for giving up now," you said. "And no time for talking about it either. Give me somewhere to start here."

"Well," James started, "I'll have to approach Jessie somehow, somewhen. And you'll have to be there---"

"I will?"

"Yes. And I'll have to say something. Something that isn't stupid. And while I agree that I'm exceedingly clever, unfortunately for me that does not seem to be the opposite of stupid."

"Well. What's the main message you want her to get out of this whole speal you're planning on planning?"

"Well...I suppose that I'm not a kidnapper. And that I never really wanted to do things that were this harmful to other people. And if that's what she's planning on doing, then, well...I just can't see myself staying."

"Perfect! Say that."

"What?? No."

"Why not? What's the purpose of overcomplicating it? If that's everything that you want to say, then say it."

"Well, but, I just, I need...more than that! That seems...utterly stupid. If I'm approaching her and saying all of these important things, she'd just think...'that's it?' because that's what I think! I need it to seem more important than a few sentences!"

"You don't show meaning by showing more, James. You show meaning by showing anything at all."

He sighed. "You're really not going to give me...anything else to say?"

"We don't have all day, James."

"Funny. I thought we did."

"I didn't mean it literally. Are you just supposed to talk so much that she'll have no time to respond?"

"That does seem preferable."

"You can't fear her response!" you yelled. "You have to be excited for it! It's your whole future, and it'll be better than your present either way."

"Yeah, and no pressure."

"A lot of pressure, actually. Now come on," you slid off of the bed, "now or never."
