Paintbrush's POV:
I woke up pretty early and took up a lot of space on the branch by accident. Whoops! Lightbulb was sleeping still, and I wasn't sure exactly what time it was. I checked in the bag to see if Lightbulb packed a watch or a phone so I could check he time. Sure enough, I saw her MePhone4S in there, and it was 7:46.
That's really rare for me to wake up that early, because I usually wake up around 9:00 or 11:00 at the latest. I noticed that it's only when I'm sleeping in places where I'm not used to that I wake up earlier. Obviously I wasn't to fond of sleeping in trees. But there was one thing I was sure of: I was STARVING. I got out a granola bar and a water bottle. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this bag bag fit so much! It's got like 20 granola bars and water bottles in there, along with all of our other essentials!
I laid back down and started to unwrap the bar, when Lightbulb started to scoot closer to me. I stayed still for a bit, then heard some murmuring. "No.....Mr. Pumpernickel....I loooove him.....stawp it...." What kind of stuff does she even dream about? That sounded.... interesting all right... She started to move around some more in her sleep, and then laid back down. Right on my lap.
I didn't wanna move her, she looked comfortable, and she was so adorable when she slept. Did I just think that? Anyways, she stayed there on my lap for a while, then started to climb up to my chest. I was laying down, so it's not like she was a monkey. Then she unexpectedly started to grab on to me. She didn't hang on tight, but it was loose and I was pretty comfortable with it.
I started to blush pretty badly. I mean, she kinda just started to hug my chest in her sleep. She didn't move, and neither did I. She looked... peaceful. So relaxed. If I disturbed her slumber, I'd just feel bad. Did it seem creepy that I was just laying there watching her sleep? Probably. We laid there for about 30 minutes, until she suddenly started to stretch her arms out, and her eyes fluttered open. "Good morning, Lightbulb!" I whispered.
She slowly looked up, and her face turned red. She quickly scurried off of me and yelled, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! How long was I laying there?" I shrugged. "It's ok. You were only there for like, 30 minutes. It's alright!" Her face turned a crimson color as she stuttered, "I was laying there f-for...30 minutes on you? That is a long time! 1/48 of the day!" "Well, when you put it that way, it seems pretty long. But you were on my chest for 30 minutes. You were laying me for about an hour."
She looked at me, her jaw wide open, and shrieked, "Then that's even WORSE! That's 1/24 of the day! Wasted! Why didn't you move me off of you?" I didn't want her to know that I enjoyed it, so I just said, "You looked comfortable, so I left you there." She looked down and gave a nervous laugh. "Heh, sorry about that. But thanks for not waking me up and smacking me with one of those tree branches!"
We started to laugh, and I asked, "Hey should we start heading out? It's 9:00 now." She checked her phone and smirked. "Yeah probably. Actually, it's 8:58. Nice try though." I gave her a sarcastic tone, "Oh yeah, 2 minutes off. Such a difference!" Lightbulb put the blanket back, and strapped the bag onto her back. "It's sure gonna take a while to climb back down there."
Lightbulb smirked again and brought out the blanket again. "Who said we had to climb down?" She tied up the blanket in this certain way, and told me to hang on to the middle. I did, and she put hers next to mine. I worriedly asked, "Are you sure this is safe? Or that it will work?" "Nope!" She jumped right off the branch and told me that I should hang on tight.
I started to scream, and she started to laugh as we swooped down. I was closing my eyes tightly, when I decided to open them. We actually going down at a pretty decent speed. Maybe this could work! I looked over the trees, and the view was marvelous. There was this beautiful sunrise out on the horizon. Pastel colors bursted throughout the sky, from salmon pink, to light blue, to the yellow of my cast.
I totally forgot I had that on until I grabbed my crutches this morning and somehow fit them in the bag, because they folded up. Now that I think about it, when I climbed up that tree and ran, I barely noticed I was using them or even had an injury! I was thinking so much about that, I didn't realize we were a mere 30 feet from the ground!
As it got closer, I got a little more afraid about how I was gonna land. Lightbulb suddenly started to let go of the blanket's center and fell at about 20 feet. "She yelled, "Don't worry Painty! I meant to do that! Now, so you don't hurt your foot, I'm gonna catch you while you're falling. Ready?" I shook my head. What if she DIDN'T catch me and the blanket while we were plummeting. "Deal with it."
I was about 5 feet above the ground, and I shut my eyes in fear. Then I felt my bone go *crack*. Just kidding, she caught me in time. "Perfect! Now wasn't that fun?" I shrugged, "I mean, I guess. It was probably WAY better than climbing down!" She jumped up in happiness. "See? That's the attitude I'm looking for!" We started to walk (Well, I kinda hobbled) out of the forest, and when we got about halfway there, we heard a noise. "What was that?" She whispered nervously. "I'm not sure... probably just a twig." We started to slowly creep out again, when I heard it again. "There it is again!" I said a bit louder than she did before. We saw a sign as we walked away a bit quicker that said, 'Military shooting practice'.
We both shrieked, and she suddenly scooped me up and started to sprint out of there. "You know you didn't have to pick me up, right?" She looked back at me and panted, "...We are not gonna die....in a military practice site! It'd be a...faster way out of here if you just.... went with it." We heard a few other shots, when we finally jumped over a fence and got back to the street we were on before.
"Phew, I can't believe we just escaped that so easily!" She said, sounding relieved. "I know!" I was still on her back, and she started walking again. "Hey, you're still carrying me. You can put me down now." She giggled. "Whoops, sorry." She let me down carefully and put the crutches under my arms. We started to walk back to where we were coming back and went the opposite way where we were heading back to her house. Then I realized something.
"Hey, now that no one else but you technically lives in that house anymore, why don't we just stay there?" She smiled. "Well....wait why couldn't we? That's a good-" she paused. "Wait, the police are probably gonna be walking up to my house constantly to see if I'm there so they an take me to the orphanage, since I don't have a technical guardian now."
She had a point there. "Never mind then. Okay, where do you wanna head?" She thought a moment, then made that face you make when you get an idea. "Maybe to that hotel on Newt Road! You know, Newts Inn?" I remembered that place from when we passed by that amusement park Queens Island! "Yeah! I heard if you're younger than 15, then you can't stay here without an adult with you!"
Lightbulb easily figured that out. "Well, we could just tell them we're 15! We're only a year younger!" "Works for me!" We started to head toward Newt Road with Lightbulb's GPS on her MePhone. "Alright, here we go! First we turn...left!"
(A/N: I honestly don't know what I should put here this time. Ummm hi there! If I've never met you, hey there! Please rate and comment! Because honestly, I say that way too much)
