The moment felt surreal. My heart raced as I stared at the cake and the message inside the box. "I'm going to LA?" I repeated, my voice a mix of disbelief and excitement.

"Yes!" my mom beamed, her phone still recording my reaction. "We're leaving next week for your birthday. Just you and me."

I hugged her tightly, a thousand thoughts running through my mind. LA had always been one of those places I dreamed of visiting, and now it was happening. "I can't believe it! Thank you so much!"

She laughed and held me at arm's length. "I'm glad you're excited. I know your dad can't make it this time, but I figured we could still have a fun girls' trip."

My excitement faltered just a little at the mention of Dad not coming. He'd been missing a lot of family stuff because of work lately, but I didn't want that to ruin the moment. I was still thrilled.

"Oh, and I spoke with Leanne's parents earlier," Mom continued. "If you want, she can come along with us. I figured you'd want to bring a friend."

"Really?" I asked, surprised that my mom had thought of that.

She nodded. "She already got the okay from her parents, so it's up to you."

A smile crept across my face. Having Leanne come with me sounded perfect. After everything she was going through with her brother, it would be a great way to lift her spirits.

I quickly grabbed my phone and sent her a text: *"Guess who's going to LA with me for my birthday??!!"*

Her reply came almost instantly: *"OMG, SHUT UP! Are you serious?! When? I'm packing already!"*

I laughed, feeling the excitement build even more. This was going to be one unforgettable birthday.

As Leanne and I boarded the plane, excitement surged between us. We found our seats, and before I could even buckle my seatbelt, Leanne turned to me with a grin.

"Isn't Walker in LA right now?" she asked, like she'd just remembered.

My heart did a weird flip. "Oh my god, you're right," I said, feeling a sudden rush of nerves.

Leanne raised her eyebrows and smirked. "You know, we could totally 'accidentally' run into him. I could take the blame and make it look like it just happened."

I laughed, shaking my head. "It's fine, Lee. I probably won't even see him. He's probably busy with his own stuff."

Still, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Walker. In LA. At the same time as me. My mind started to wander, remembering his laugh, his eyes—just the way he made everything feel... easy. The warmth in his presence had always been so calming, and now, I realized how much I missed that.

"Rory?" Leanne nudged me. "You zoned out, and you're blushing."

I quickly snapped out of it, realizing I'd been lost in thought. "What? No, I wasn't," I said, but my voice gave me away.

Leanne grinned, not letting me off that easy. "Were you thinking about Walker?"

I rolled my eyes. "No. Maybe," I admitted, feeling my face flush a little.

"Oh my god, you have a crush on him!" she said, laughing.

I pulled the blanket over myself, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. "I'm going to sleep," I muttered, trying to hide the fact that, yeah, I might actually like Walker Scobell.

But as I closed my eyes, the thought hit me again. *Holy shit, I like Walker Scobell.*

-

"Morning! Time to rise and shine!" Leanne's cheerful voice pulled me out of sleep. I groaned, rubbing my eyes as I slowly got out of bed and shuffled to the bathroom.

As I was brushing my teeth, my phone buzzed from the counter. I finished up, wiped my face, and grabbed it. There was a notification on Instagram.

Leanne's enthusiasm was infectious as she put on her makeup. "When you get famous, you move to LA as soon as possible, you hear me?"

I chuckled, finishing my eyeliner. "People usually move to NYC, but honestly, as a beach girl at heart, I'd totally move to LA. I'd get a beach house and spend my mornings on the sand, swimming till I'm exhausted."

Leanne grinned. "You're definitely a cabin 3."

"Oh my god, does this make me female Percy Jackson?" I said, pretending to be shocked while covering my mouth.

"Not gonna lie, you do remind me of him!" she said, giving me an amused look in the mirror.

"Well, if that's the case, maybe I should just embrace it completely. I could dye my roots, lighten my hair, and get blue contacts," I joked.

Leanne laughed. "Oh, I'd love to see that!"

Then I remembered something. "Oh, I forgot to tell my mom I'm meeting Leah. I should let her know."

"Just mention it when she arrives; she'll understand," Leanne said.

I nodded, and we continued getting ready, enjoying the easy flow of conversation and the excitement of the day ahead.

"Here are some cookies for breakfast since they didn't have sandwiches. You'll have to make do with these for now," my mom said as she handed us the bags and settled on the couch with her coffee.

"Mom, remember Leah?" I asked, grabbing a cookie. "Leah, the actress who played Annabeth? I've talked about her a lot."

"Oh, her! What about her?" she asked, looking intrigued.

"She invited me to her house. We met at the premiere and hit it off," I explained.

"Is her mom around? I'd like to meet her," my mom said, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Yeah, she is."

"Alright, get ready then. We'll head over. Send me her location," my mom instructed.

Leanne and I quickly went to get ready. Our clothes were strewn everywhere as we scrambled to find something to wear. "I'm going to dig through your suitcase. I might find something," I said to Leanne.

"Same here," she replied.

I decided on my favorite grey flared jeans and paired them with Leanne's low neckline off-shoulder black top. Leanne chose a black lace tank top and a jean skirt. We both wore black Converse to match.

Leanne stared at herself in the mirror, unhappy with her hair. "Is my hair okay? I'm really not feeling it right now," she said.

I quickly brushed it and styled it into a half-up, half-down look with a claw clip. "Does it look better now?" I asked.

"Actually, yes. Thanks!" she said, giving me a grateful smile.

"Great, let's go then!!" I said, grabbing my bag.
