After school, I headed home, took a quick shower, and decided to put a little extra effort into my makeup. Not knowing what the evening would bring, I settled on ripped jeans and a white long-sleeve shirt.

"Hey, Mom, me and my friend Leanne are going to celebrate my birthday today," I announced.

"What time will you be back?" she asked, her tone casual.

"Probably around 6 or 7," I replied.

"Okay, great!" she said cheerfully.

I grabbed my red Converse and red leather jacket and headed out.

Leanne and I decided to meet up at the park before heading out together.

"Hey!!" Leanne exclaimed as she ran up and hugged me.

"Hey! So what's the plan for tonight?" I asked, excited to get started.

"I thought we could hit the mall and then grab some ramen noodles. How does that sound?" she suggested.

"Ramen noodles it is," I agreed enthusiastically.

We walked to the mall, which was quite a trek, but we enjoyed the stroll. Once there, we window-shopped and explored a few stores. When hunger struck, we headed to a ramen place.

"So, I kinda want to audition for something," I mentioned between slurps of ramen.

"What kind of audition?" she asked, curious.

"Like, acting," I said casually.

"Wait, you're an actor?" she said, her eyebrows raising in surprise.

"I've done a lot of plays growing up and a few commercials, but never anything for the screen," I shrugged.

"No wonder you looked familiar!" she said, studying my face with renewed interest. I laughed at her observation.

"You should definitely go for it if you like acting," Leanne encouraged. "I mean, who knows? You could end up in Percy Jackson or something."

"I might need an agent for that," I said, "but there's an open audition for a smaller role. If I get it, I might get an agent."

"Well, you've got to go for it. Yolo, right?" she said with a grin.

I shrugged and laughed, feeling encouraged.

Leanne's phone buzzed, and she checked it with a frown. "Can I stay over at your place tonight? Something happened, and no one's home," she said, her voice tinged with concern.

"Are you okay?" I asked, worried. "Sure, I'll text my mom."

I quickly sent a message to my mom, letting her know Leanne would be staying over.

"Thanks, Rory," Leanne said gratefully. "I really appreciate it."

"Of course. Let's finish up here and head back," I replied, ready for whatever the evening had in store.
