Nightmare

Chapter 22

You find Taehyun first when you enter the living room. He's laying down on the couch, eyes closed. You look, not finding the other vampires who you had left inside. You smile to yourself before moving forward quietly, light on your feet to get to Taehyun's side.

"You know I can hear you right?"

You puff out air, annoyed.

Taehyun chuckles from his place on the couch, eyes not opening. "Sorry darling, but you have to try harder to surprise us. Vampires have excellent hearing."

You roll your eyes at his cocky tone.

"Don't roll your eyes at me!"

'He didn't even open his fucking eyes' you groan in your head. 'Cocky bastard.'

Taehyun is practically radiating pompous energy. So, you decide to try one last way to surprise him.

You shift your body to the side of the couch, then swiftly throw one leg over his lap, pulling your body onto the couch and on top of his. Your hands steady yourself on his chest, his eyes shooting open at the movement. You send him a smug smile, to which he promptly flushes. Despite his flustered expression, his hands move to your waist to help keep you steady. You almost, almost, melt when his thumbs start absentmindedly rubbing circles into your skin.

"A warning would have been nice," Taehyun huffs, faking annoyance. "I was a little startled."

You shrug your shoulders, smile turning innocent.

"You're lucky you're so cute."

It's your turn to flush a little this time. You shake your head, shifting a little so you can lay down. Your head rests comfortably on Taehyun's chest, legs intertwining with his own. Arms moving from his chest to wrap around his waist, you give it a small squeeze. Taehyun's own arms move, one moving to wrap around your waist while the other lands in your hair, fingers beginning to thread softly through your hair. Every time his nails graze your scalp, you almost want to purr, happy and complacent in his hold.

"Comfy?"

You nod your head quickly, effectively rubbing your cheek against his chest. "Mhm."

Taehyun chuckles, his chest rumbling beneath you.

You both relax against each other, his hand running through your hair being the only part of either of you moving. A haze fills your head, but not the pain filled ones you have been used to. It's a calm, lax haze, one you have really only ever felt with your mates and from someone you knew a long time ago. You expect the thought to sadden you, but you only find comfort in it. You think he would have been glad you found such good mates.

The now setting sun casts a warm, golden glow over the room. Birds sing outside of the house, wind gently joining, creating a wonderful melody. Everything seems to slow as you bask in the comfort of it all.

"What are you two doing?"

Your eyes flutter open again, along with Taehyun, to see Soobin looking at the two of you with a warmth fueled gaze.

Taehyun smiles. "Cuddling. Our little mate is quite cozy."

"Looks like it," Soobin muses. "But unfortunately I have to break this up. Food will be ready in a few minutes."

You groan, burying your head further into Taehyun's chest.

Soobin's gaze seems to soften more. "I know, I'm so sorry. But, you need to get a proper meal in your stomach. It's been whatever Kai had hunted and random berries, we actually have something filling prepared."
