Nightmare

Chapter 27

You stare in the mirror of the bathroom, looking at the wounds criss-crossing your chest. One of your hands moves to trace the oldest of the wounds, from the first time Amos had tried to kill you. The scar is still rough under your fingertips, causing you to almost flinch away. Slowly, your hand slides down to the faded bruises covering your heart.

"Darling?"

You pull your gaze from the mirror to Taehyun, letting your hand drop to your side. "Hm?"

"I was coming to ask if you were ready to go," he begins, moving into the room and placing a hand on the small of your back. "But are you okay?"

"Yeah, I was just checking my wounds," you assure him lightly.

He places a quick kiss to the back of your neck. "Just making sure. So, are you ready to go? Your siblings say it's probably gonna be a three to four day trip."

You huff. "Oh it's going to be so fun being stuck with them for four days."

"When in doubt, we can just send them to find food if we need time away from them," Taehyun offers, shrugging. "Or, we can just be sickeningly sweet enough in front of them so they leave on their own."

"Yeah, I'm going to veto that one."

Taehyun presses another kiss to the back of your neck, pouting. "You're no fun."

"And you, little vampire" with a smile, you pull away from his hold. "need to back away from my neck."

He releases a lighthearted laugh, burrowing his nose into said area. "Oh please, this isn't the spot you bite when you want to drain someone."

"Yeah?"

"Mhm," his fangs begin to push from his gums, scraping across your skin with a practiced delicacy. "I thought that had been explained to you already."

You smirk, catching his eye in the mirror. "It has, just not sure I grasped the entire concept."

Taehyun puts a bit more pressure behind his bite. "I could always just demonstrate."

Rolling your eyes, you push his head away. "Sorry, my little crow, but we have things to do. Maybe after?"

"Definitely after," he confirms with a stern nod. "But you're right, we need to get going."

"So, do you have a plan for this adventure?"

Echo and Gaia both seem a little shocked when you direct the question towards them. You hadn't really even looked at them since you left hours ago.

"Well Amos is weak right now because of the experiment-"

Cough "Torture."

Gaia glares at Kai who just glares right back.

"Anyways, they will need at least a few weeks to recuperate. They are normally alone for most of this time, something about not wanting to rest to be discouraged about failure."

"Amos doesn't like people seeing them as weak, hiding away is a coward's move," you roll your eyes. "So we just get to them while they are holed away?"

"Yes."

"And you are completely sure this is the safe house they are going to?"

"Yes Ere, we are completely sure."

"Please, don't call me that."

Gaia and Echo both freeze in their tracks, causing you to slow to a stop as well. Your mates immediately take their place beside you.
