"There's a much more fun way to draw blood," you drawl, glaring at Amos. "Why don't you come in here and try it."
Amos rolls their eyes, leaning back in their chair. "Considering you are high off of morphine and night phlox, I doubt the fight would end the way you think it is."
With a huff, you shift in your spot, the nurse that is carefully taking samples of your blood puts a hand on your shoulder, stilling you. You decide not to fit, just laying back and allowing her to finish her job and leave.
"Shouldn't you already have my blood samples," you slur out the question.
"You broke them when you left," they respond.
You think for a moment, brain fuzzy. "Oh yeah."
"Besides," Amos continues. "Who knows what happens when you find your mate, or in your case mates. Your genetic makeup could have shifted. That's something I want to study."
Amos stands from their chair, heading towards the door. "I'm going to leave you in the capable hands of my little nurse here. I've got a few bloodsuckers to talk to."
You watch them leave, a sense of dread filling your body.
"I am sorry about them," the young nurse hushes after a moment of silence. "They just need this project to work out. But with you it will work."
"Is that what they told you? That I was this," you pause, medicated brain trying to find the right words. "this fucking missing piece?"
The nurse nods her head. "They said your abilities and your bond would be what gets this to work. Then we can fix everyone. All of us heliones need to stick together."
"Yes and you are doing just that by taking my blood for testing against my will for a psychotic experiment that will end up killing me just like all the others. You're all really ones for team spirit huh?"
She just scowls at you, all but ripping out the needle from your arm when she's done taking your blood. She places a gauze pad above the wound, but does not tie it down. With that, she collects the samples and leaves the cage, slamming the cell door shut. To your surprise, however, you do not hear the latch make its normal deafening crash when it closes. You shift to your side, turning to find the door ever so slightly ajar.
The medicated haze still hangs over you, but you see an out and you need to try and take it.
"Oh dear," the same nurse from before suddenly shows up in the doorway. "I completely forgot to latch this. Hope you didn't get any ideas. After all, we've still go so many tests to run."
You throw your head back in frustration.
---
"Anything?"
"I don't think any of us have found anything new in the past two days Kai."
"Sorry."
Yeonjun lets out a sigh, but move to wrap Kai in a quick hug. "It's alright, we're all worried."
"Worried about what I wonder?"
All five vampires whip around to look at the door, across from the big panel of glass enclosing them. Amos stands there, a haughty smirk on their face.
Eyes flash grey and fangs elongate, Soobin and Taehyun immediately moving towards the glass.
"Settle down," Amos raises their hands in mock surrender. "I won't do anything to you."
"Why are you here?" Taehyun growls.
"I just want to talk."
"You don't deserve to talk, you don't even deserve to breathe," Soobin responds, glaring holes into Amos' head.
