Nine months after the massacre, everything went smoothly for Max. When they got to the hospital he had to go through surgery to get the bullet out of his chest. It was also a couple of inches above his heart so he could have died from it. But the problem was that he did die from it, briefly. It wasn't as worse as last time because this time he was only dead for seven minutes.

The news worried Gale and Sidney so much that they started to hover him. The surgery was a painful experience but he was able to leave the hospital with Gale. He learned that Dewey, Judy, and Wes all made wills just in case something happened to them. Dewey left some of his belongings to Gale and he left the rest of his possessions to Max. He left the trailer and the truck to Max while Judy and Wes left all of their possessions to Max including their house.

Max didn't see the need to keep the house, the trailer, or the truck because he was moving away with Gale. He sold the trailer, the truck, the house, and he only kept the things that were most important to him. Despite signing the adoption papers, he was able to keep the Riley name to honor Dewey. Moving to New York wasn't easy but he was able to adjust to the new environment. He decided that he didn't want to go to college after High School.

He later decided to take more self defense classes and he wanted to be more of a martial artist. Gale made a book about what happened in Woodsboro despite saying that she wouldn't do it, he was angry at first but eventually he was able to forgive her. He kept in touch with the others but he didn't talk to them often because of how hard he was working. Gale eventually got a new boyfriend named Brooks, Max wasn't sure at first but he eventually warmed up to him. Brooks took the role of a father to be there for Max and they've been getting along ever since.

Brooks took him to get his drivers license, hung out with him whenever he could, and supported him no matter what. After he got his drivers license, Gale bought him his first car.

After he got the car he used whenever he needed to and he was responsible with it. When he was in self defense class he was able to befriend his teacher and the daughter of the teacher. When he graduated high school he couldn't help but feel something was missing. Sure, Gale, Brooks, and Sidney were there but Dewey, Judy, and Wes were a part of his life but sadly he wouldn't be able to show his achievements to them. A couple of weeks after the graduation he was contacted by Mindy and she told him that she and the others would attending Blackmore University and he was extremely excited.

After a few days of waiting he was able to see them at their dorm where they were unpacking. He helped Mindy and he helped Chad but now he was helping Sam and Tara unpack in their dorm. While he was putting the rest of their belongings in the room, Tara and Sam decided to explore the city.

"Is there anything else ?" Max asked as they were walking out the door.

"There are a few boxes left but you can put them in my room. We'll be back in a few hours. You can meet our roommate, Quinn. She seems nice. We'll be back in a couple of hours." Tara said closing the door behind her.
