"What can I say? I'm overwhelmed," (Y/n) sarcastically remarked sitting atop the saddle, leaning against the railings.
She let out a breath, patting the fur of the giant hairy beast Appa. He was pretty cute. (Y/n) softly smiled, brushing her fingertips along his leg.
"When you said this thing could fly, I thought you meant off the ground. And a bit faster." She rested her chin on her palm, bending the water below her to make small ripples.
"He just needs some time, right Sokka?" Katara anxiously looked at Sokka, but he shrugged his shoulders. (Y/n) sighed softly.
"You know, you guys got into quite a bit of trouble back there. Hell, you lit a fire nation flare. What happened?" (Y/n) asked curiously, turning to look at Sokka who was lying down in the back out the saddle. He looked sheepishly downward, filling her in on how Katara and himself had freed Aang, how they had gone into the ship and lit the flare, and how Aang had been banished, walking away on Appa.
"Wow," she breathed out, shaking her head. "I really can't leave you too home alone for more than an hour."
"Hey!" They shouted out. (Y/n) shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.
"But (Y/n)'s right. This snot beast needs to get flying. Go. Fly. Soar." Sokka crossed his arms, staring at Katara who sat on Appa's head.
"Please Appa. We need your help. Aang needs your help."
"Up. Ascend. Elevate."
"They don't believe that you can fly, but I do Appa! Come on, don't you want to save Aang?" She desperately patted his coat as if to coax him into moving faster.
Appa let out a large groan, splashing in the water. (Y/n) sat up, ears perking in interest.
"What was it that kid said? Hup-hup? Yee-haw? Wa-hoo? Uhhh... Yip-yip?"
Appa's eyes lit up, beginning to splash the water with his tail and swimming faster. And (Y/n) couldn't believe her own eyes, but Appa actually began to soar through the sky, quickly catching up on the boat in the distance.
Sokka was screaming about how they were flying, stopping abruptly when Katara shot him a smug look.
"I can't believe it. He's actually flying." (Y/n) whispered under her breath, looking down over the edge of the saddle into the icy water.
"Look! There he is!" Katara yelled, pointing at the ship's deck.
Aang was pinned against the corner, fire ruthlessly attacking him. He jumped onto the railing, but Zuko sent another punch his way. (Y/n)'s eyes widened with shock and horror as Aang's silhouette plummeted towards the icy sea. She heard Katara scream as his body hit the water.
(Y/n) rushed to the front of Appa, placing her hand on Katara's shoulder.
"Don't worry. I'll save him." (Y/n) whispered, not daring to peel her eyes away from where Aang had landed.
Katara was about to ask what (Y/n) meant, but before she could speak, (Y/n) bolted off of Appa, free-falling before diving into the water. Her siblings screamed after her, but (Y/n) was nowhere to be seen. 'Damn, it's cold.' She thought, propelling herself forward. She searched through the water, pushing herself to go faster.
Aang sank further towards the bottom, unconscious. (Y/n) spotted his bright clothes in the water, turning to swim in his direction. Just as she was about to grab his hand, Aang's eyes and tattoos lit up. (Y/n) gasped, covering her mouth. She coughed, regretting gasping since she had inhaled a shit ton of seawater. Aang was waterbending himself onto the boat out of her sight. 'Wow.' She marveled at his power. (Y/n) began to follow him up to the surface. She squinted upward. Was that a body plummeting towards the surface? Her confused expression was soon replaced with panic as the body crashed into the water-
Straight onto her. 'What the hell?' She thought, pushing the man off of her. To her shock, Prince Zuko grabbed onto her leg, dragging her down. (Y/n) stared at him in shock and disgust, kicking him with her other foot to make him let go. Feeling his grip loosen, she bent the water around herself, climbing up onto the side of the ship.
Katara stood in front of 3 frozen men, staring down at her hands in shock. Hearing her brother's voice, she snapped out of her trance, grabbing Aang and pulling him onto Appa.
(Y/n) watched her sister with concern lining her face, glancing between her and the frozen men. She shuttered, hoping that Katara would be okay.
"Sokka! Hurry up!" (Y/n) shouted, melting the ice around his feet as she ran up Appa's tail.
Sokka muttered angry curses and ran after his sisters, grabbing Aang's staff along the way. Racing up Appa's tail, he yelled for Appa to take off. Quickly, they began to climb in altitude, racing away from the ship.
"Watch out!" (Y/n) heard Sokka scream, pulling hard on Appa's reigns to avoid being burnt alive.
(Y/n) turned around to see Zuko and an older gentleman blasting bursts of flames in their direction. Taking in a deep breath, she assumed a bending stance and extended her arms, trying to concentrate on the walls of snow surrounding them. She smirked slightly, feeling that she had gained total control over it.
"See you later," she whispered tauntingly to the prince, who scowled up at her.
With a single flick of her wrist, (Y/n) sent the sheets of snow crashing down onto the ship. She mockingly saluted to Zuko as the crew flew off, watching him shoot one last blast at her, which didn't even reach halfway.
"Let's get going," (Y/n) warmly said, sitting on the right side of the saddle.
Katara and Sokka nodded in agreement.

Aang's eyes slowly began to open, groaning in Katara's lap. (Y/n) smirked, watching the boy flush with embarrassment before meekly thanking Katara.
"How did you do that? With the water? It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen!" Katara excitedly stated to Aang, who plopped himself on top of Appa's head.
"I don't know. I just sort of... did it." He hung his head down, petting Appa who groaned in response.
"Why didn't you tell us you were the avatar?" (Y/n) looked at Katara, shaking her head. Katara was being too blunt, and (Y/n) knew that she could hurt Aang's feelings.
"Because I never wanted to be the avatar." The crew sat in silence, staring at Aang.
A cloud passed over them, shielding the sun's rays. (Y/n) shivered, pulling her cloak closer to her body. She looked back up at Aang, who hugged his knees, a look of pure sadness swirling in his eyes. She sighed, getting up to her feet.
"Don't worry Aang. Avatar or not, we'll all be here by your side."
She slowly wrapped her arms around the boy, hoping to provide some sort of comfort to him. Katara slowly stood up, joining the hung. Aang closed his eyes, embracing them back. With a large sigh, Sokka joined them, a small smile tugging at his lips, but he pretended to be annoyed out of embarrassment.
"Thanks, you guys."
(Y/n) smiled softly, muttering sweetly into his ear. "Of course. You're part of the family after all."
(Y/n) watched Aang bitterly smile, wiping the tears away from his eyes. Katara and Sokka returned to their places on the saddle, nodding to her with approving looks in their eyes. (Y/n) was about to join them, but stopped when Aang jumped onto her, smothering her in a hug. Her initial shock was soon replaced by a feeling of warmth and safety. She hugged him back, feeling joy swell in her chest at the thought of a new family member.
Maybe this journey wouldn't be so bad after all.
