Chapter 8

But I can only write
This song and tell you
That I'm not that strong.

Elsa

For awhile, I kept watching Cartoon Network with Jamie. I texted Anna and told her to tell mom I was at a friend's house. As my fingers tapped on my phone screen, I felt Jamie nudged me. I put my phone down and looked over at him.

"What's up, Jamie?" I asked, grinning softly.

"Yknow, big brother talks about you a lot." He said, and Jack rolled his eyes before flicking his forehead lightly. Jamie pouted his lips before rubbing his forehead, making me giggle.

"Shut up, will you?" Jack said to him sarcastically, and I laughed.

Jamie laughed before putting his attention back on the TV.

"Well, Elsa and I should head back upstairs so we can keep working, Jamie." Jack said and got off the couch, prompting me to copy his actions.

I looked over at Jamie as I stood up.

"You good down here?" I asked and he nodded. I ruffled his hair gently before making my way to the staircase and walking upstairs, Jack trailing behind me. We walked into his room and I sat down on his bed.

We kept watching some more movies, totally ignoring the project.

Jack was lying down, using his phone and yawning.

"Jaaaaack! How do you turn on the Xbox one?" Jamie yelled from downstairs.

"Plug the black cord into the wall and use the remote to change the HDMI!" Jack yelled back lazily.

"What black cord?"

I laughed as Jack stood up, frustrated.

"I gotta go help him. I won't be long." He said and I nodded before he walked out his bedroom door.

I got off the bed, and aimlessly walked around his room. I looked at his desk, and the small book case next to it. There were some small journals, and I pulled one out.

Damn, I'm nosy. Oh well.

I opened it, and flipped through a few pages. It was worn out and some of the pages stuck out from the bottom. As I looked through it, I realized that it wasn't a writing journal.

The journal was filled with song lyrics.

Jack writes songs?

I put the journal away and looked around his room more. I walked up to his closet and opened it.

Jesus, it's so dirty in here!

I looked around the closet and spotted a guitar in the corner.

It was black, and it looked fairly new.

If he uses it, why would he put it in the back of his closet?

I closed the closet door, and lied back down on the bed. I shut my eyes briefly, listening to the sound coming from Jack's TV.

I heard movement at the door frame, and opened my eyes to see Jack walking in.

"Sorry. He doesn't know how to work stuff like that." He said and grinned at me.

I grinned back and glanced back at the journal I saw before looking back at him.

I looked over at the digital clock on his bedside table, and realized it was 6 pm.

"It's getting pretty late in the afternoon. I should head home, my mom might need help with things around the house. And I have other homework to do. I assume you do too." I said and got off the bed.
