The day dragged on for Morgan. Eric had offered to let him sleep for a few hours but Morgan was unable to do so, just as he was unable to eat knowing his Mate was in a difficult situation. Could Galen drink, eat, sleep or simply relieve himself?

Morgan clung to their bond. It was tenuous but it was there. To ease his frustration, he attended the meetings, even if they seemed pointless. A colossal amount of work was done and a more complete picture took shape. On the map in Eric's office, which was photographed, enlarged and pinned to one of the walls of the villa, they added the missing wolves by asking each Alphas for information... but it was Coyote's help that made the difference.

Eric and his pack realised that the community of Forgotten Ones was far more numerous and organised than they had thought. The wolves that were disappearing were generally from the Forgotten community, and therefore considered "less" important than the wolves from the packs. The problem was that hundreds of wolves disappeared. Even if some were found dead, the numbers were still enormous.

The deciphering of Byron's drawings had continued and faces had found their names by cross-referencing with facial comparators. It wasn't totally perfect, as the drawings were still crude and subjective, but it was making progress. The people identified were all linked to the religious community, as their photographs were on the parish websites at the bishop's office. Byron was somehow better. The madness had subsided. Only the catatonic state remained. He still did not speak, or spoke in a confused way, and the sound of the bells still terrified him.

Further tests on the Worcester family had revealed the presence of black nightshade and wolfsbane, Abraham's favourite suppressant, which had proved effective throughout his community at LaCrosse. Was it the same formula? If so, how had the enemy obtained it, since Lacrosse had been completely wiped off the map? One thing was certain, it was the same formula that was in Kim's blood... which linked the two places... three if you included LaCrosse.

By connecting the three points, the triangle took in the whole of the northern United States and the place of convergence was Chicago. The five cities that had suffered the wave of attacks, the ones that Eric had visited during his campaign, were in the triangle.

The actions had begun a year ago... but the organisation dated from before that. It had been a long time in the making. A carefully thought-out plan. Was the disappearance of Cody's pack a trial run? It had been the first. Unlike the others, it had been messy, too many clues had been left and the culprit was known. The latest one too. Why attack a family of Forgotten Ones instead of a 'real' pack? There was something wrong with this one too. And yet a scenario was falling into place.

The hunters would target a territory and find the wolves through various channels: the associations that came to their aid, which generally represented the voice of the Amaroq to redistribute wealth; through the church, probably the confessional, since in the end its secrecy only applied to humans... then the priest would either be recruited or replaced by a request from the bishopric. The hunter would stay in place until the crime was committed, then be replaced and disappear off the radar.

To find them, you had to follow one of the available leads. Money was complicated. Weapons were the most likely. Romero was the number one suspect and, as Eric said with a smile, unlike the police or human institutions, the Wolves didn't need them. They were treated like animals, so why bend to human laws? Morgan grumbled after that day because, as he had said, nothing had changed. Romeo was still the target. And he was just another weapons manufacturer. Who's to say that once he'd fallen, the hunters wouldn't find somewhere else? That's when Colin pointed out that Romeo was the only one who knew how to handle silver and the import-export of this mineral was very closely monitored. It would take time for the Hunters to find a new supplier. Surprisingly, it was Nicholas who gave them the last piece of information they needed. Nicholas was a clerk in the commercial register. All it took was a few internal clicks to get the addresses of properties and lettings.
