Confrontation

Lena, followed by the two Omegas, made rapid progress down the mine shaft. Quick and unobtrusive, they blended in perfectly with the light and shade. They didn't have to go far before they caught the scent of silver and plants. They stopped. It was behind a recently added door. It seemed solid. The sound of a generator made the ground almost tremble and a faint blue light emanated from it. No one was guarding it, there was no security... This intrigued the three women but they understood that only humans went near it... and more precisely five at the most. No wolves.

"They've spared no expense!" Indeed, Emma had noticed that the door was protected by a thin layer of silver.

"If they have so much money to spend on bullshit, they should give it to me." Andrea said with a sigh.

Having anticipated the possibility of coming into contact with silver, the women wore leather gloves. The door was surprisingly unlocked. They slipped into the room. It was much bigger than they had expected, if they had expected anything in particular. There were crates of earth lined up in rows and rows. At least a hundred crates. The heat was heavy and humid and the UV lamps sizzled over the plans at various stages of development. The wolves recoiled at the toxic smell. It wasn't just Black nightshade and Aconite, there was also foxglove, lily of the valley and colchicum, as well as valerian, camomile and a few cannabis plants. They covered their faces with their turtlenecks.

"A real chemist's laboratory, my word!" Andrea was examining the plants. Further on, Emma and Lou approached a table with several stills and other more complex machines.

"Judging by the set-up, this isn't something they started a month ago." Emma said, wrinkling her nose, "It's much older than that!"

Lou opened the door of a tall fridge. Inside lined up hundreds of vials filled with a pale green milky liquid on one side, and others filled with a translucent liquid on the other. Underneath was another rather brown liquid in glass bottles. Lou growled. "Moon wine."

Emma looked at the she-wolf who had taken Lena's place. "Moon wine? Abraham's suppressant?"

"Yes." Andrea joined them. "All that's left is to break everything. My favourite part!"

Emma sighed falsely annoyed; "It's not Omega you'd have to be but...shhh! hide!"

They had just enough time to throw themselves between the bins and crawl into one of the far corners before the door opened. Conner entered. His face was cold and his mouth contorted with anger and disgust. They watched him. With nervous movements, he opened the fridge and took out an injection pistol with a supply, which he clipped to his belt. He was talking to himself through his teeth. The words were often indistinct, but the Wolves understood what he was saying: "Do everything yourself... don't rely on anyone... best solution... they'll pay for this." Lou took on her Wolf form and, glued to the ground, advanced towards the man. She was growling, but silently. Only Emma and Andrea could hear her. They hadn't had time to imitate her when Lou jumped on the man. On her hind legs she leapt past him. The man howled as the she-wolf's powerful jaws closed on his shoulder. Conner's blood spurted out and the bone in his shoulder blade gave way under the pressure. Andrea and Emma stood up and approached as Lena ploughed her paws into the man's torso. The man howled but pressed the barrel of the injector gun against Lena's neck and squeezed. The She-wolf, surprised, let go and cowered on the ground. Conner was bleeding and panting. As Lena lay on the ground, he kicked her hard in the stomach. The she-wolf jerked and convulsed. Drool dripped from her mouth. Emma knelt down next to Lena while Andrea took up a position in front of them to defend them. The man grinned cruelly. Before Andrea could jump on him, he raised an ultrasonic whistle to his lips and whistled. The silent sound pierced the wolves' ears, paralysing them for a moment. He took the opportunity to leave the room with an evil laugh. He locked the door. Andrea turned to Emma; "How is she?"
