Throughout the years I've
Faded into the background
Like music in a grocery store,
Ready to pick up and leave -
No one usually wants to be around me -
But one late afternoon
The gentile rays of sunlight
Drift behind the deep green
Of the neighborhood trees,
A buzzing filters through my music
Wanting to be noticed -
When your voice pierces through
My attempt to shut out the world -
Two people with smiles across their faces,
Just happily living life,
Zooming down the hill together
On an electric bike -
My name fills my ears
As I process your excitement,
The infectious happiness
From the freedom of summer,
As I realize -
Throughout all these years,
I've finally stood out enough
For someone to remember me -
Let alone be happy to,
By complete chance,
See me -
And take the action
To announce yourself to me,
And be filled with nothing but light
As you do so.
