Look, for nine months, everybody had tried to get me to believe that my dad was dead. When I would say that they didn't know for a fact if he was really dead or not, they'd say I was in denial. Whatever. Denials underrated. You should try it sometime. It's highly effective, and it's only denial if you're wrong.

But here's the thing, when I was shot. Something happened to me. That something had been-my heart stopping. For two minutes. My heart stopped. I was dead.
For two whole minutes.
And nothing happened, nothing was there. It was just darkness.
Hey-I believe in heaven and everything but that....that left me questioning a lot of things.
Like if my dad was actually dead or just...lost, out there, somewhere.
And if he was really dead, would I have been able to see him? If my heart never started beating again?

"Im okay mom, really. I can go to the guest bedroom by myself."
My mother narrowed her eyes at me for a moment before slowly nodding her head. "Okay....but if you feel any pain at all you call for me immediately!" She insisted.
"Mom, I just got surgery, i'm going to at least be in a little bit of pain." I explained to her.
"No. You're supposed to be sore not in pain."
"Whatever you say" I mumbled as I turned around, headed for my future room.
"Don't give me attitude for caring about your well being." My mother snapped.
"Sorry!" I called out, already halfway down the hall.

I knew for a fact that my mom was going to be hovering over me the whole day bare minimum. I also knew for a fact that I needed to somehow make it back home, to John Bs house. The Chateau.
Once I made it to my room I quietly shut the door then pulled out my phone. I dialed John Bs number and put the phone up to my ear.
It rung for a while before eventually going to his voicemail.
I scoffed as I brought the phone away from my ear.

I then dialed JJs number which just went straight to voicemail.
Then Kiara's.
Voicemail.
Then Popes.
Voicemail.
"What the fuck" I muttered.

That's when I heard people yelling from outside.
"Hey, there's 14,000 volts in those wires!" A woman yelled.
"Hey, Sarah, be careful!" A boy yelled-I recognized his voice, it was Topper.
Out of curiosity I ran out my room just to see that my mom and Rose were walking outside, also confused by the commotion.
I followed close behind them.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." I heard Rose mutter. "Sarah, get down now!"
As I walked out the house behind my mother Sarah's face came into frame.
"Rose, calm down. I'm an athlete. I got this." Sarah reassured her.
I watched as Sarah walked across a wooden plank that was sat on top of a boat. Wires surrounded her here and there.
"You're going to get electrocuted! Get down!!" Rose yelled at her.
Sarah smiled and turned towards her, now walking sideways. She wiggled her shoulders as she continued to walk, a smile plastered on her face.

"Oh my...no" Rose mumbled, anger bubbling up.
"Sarah, that's not funny!" Topper chimed in.
"When I tell your dad about this, Sarah..." Rose shook her head.
I looked over to see Topper, Kelce, and Rafe all watching Sarah as she carefully stepped over some wires.
My mother looked enthused about what Sarah was doing while Rose and her other little friends looked thoroughly annoyed.
Sarah took a few more cautious steps then bent down to grab whatever it was she wanted to get.

She looked back at the little girl standing a few feet away from the boat. "I see her"
The little girl let out a happy giggle as Sarah looked back down at whatever it was.
She reached her hand but then suddenly let out a loud shriek as she tumbled down.
I instinctively jolted forward, my heart dropping.
"Sarah!" The little girl called out.
"Lord..." One of Roses friends mumbled.
Topper rushed forward. "Sarah! Sarah!!"
Sarah was lying on her back, her hair covering her face.

That's when Sarah moved her head to look at the panicked Topper. She picked up the wire that "electrocuted her" and swung it around, a smile crawling on her face.
Topper slowed down as Kelce started laughing.
Sarah started laughing as she sat up, grabbing what I could now tell was a plushy. "It's disconnected"
"For the love of god." Rose spoke, turning around and making her way back inside. My mother then followed.

"She got you" Kelce laughed.
"Absolute sucker!" Sarah called out.
"Oh my god" Kelce continued.
"Topper, you should see your face!" Sarah said as she made her way out of the boat.
"Yeah. Okay, yeah. I'm sorry that I care. All right, guilty" He nodded as he put his hands up in surrender.
Rafe put his hand on Toppers shoulder. "Congrats, pussy. You're officially her bitch."
Kelce was dying of laughter, like, literally dying which made me start laughing.
"All right." Rafe nodded. "Officially, did you know that? You're officially her bitch, all right?"

Topper shook his head and walked away which caused Kelce to follow him. "Oh-Come on!"
They soon disappeared around the corner of the house.
Rafe made eye contact with me and narrowed his eyebrows. I knew that he was asking what happened to my arm but I just simply shook my head. That didn't stop him. He walked over to me.
As he arrived in front of me he popped the question. "What happened to your arm?"
I sighed. "I was shot."
Rafe started laughing, he obviously thought I was joking.

Once he realized that there was no humor on my face he slowly stopped laughing.
"You're being serious?"
I gave him a fake smile then let it drop. "Yes. I'm being serious, Rafe."
"You were actually shot?" He asked.
"Yeah. I was in the hospital for 4 days."
"Really?!" He asked, he was now completely shocked.
"Yes, really."
"Mh." He nodded.

It fell into an awkward silence so I decided to take that as my chance to leave. "Well, i'm going to go now."
He nodded his head. "Yeah, me too."
"Kay. Bye." I then turned around and walked back to my room.

Once I made it to my room I closed the door and tried calling Kiara again. She had unlimited data on her phone so if her and the pogues were out somewhere she would be the one I could get a hold of.
After a few rings she picked up and I let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, Kiara" I spoke.
"Haley?" She asked.
"Yeah, it's me. Hey-can you come pick me up?" I asked, extremely impatient.

"Pick you up? Like, at the Cameron's?" She asked.
"Well...not exactly. Can you pick me up at like the street down from the Cameron's?"
I heard a muffled laugh then Kie spoke. "The street down from the Cameron's?"
"Yes, Kie! Please!!"
"Okay, Okay! Yeah, i'll come get you."
I sighed. "Thank you."
