My mother called.
I had to go back to the Cameron's.
Our plan was that me and Kie were going to distract the front worker so that he'd open the gate and help us with a few flat tires. Then the boys were going to sneak through the gate and into the impound lot out back.
But it was just going to be Kie distracting the guy because my mom was very persistent with me coming "home".

When I walked into the house it was relatively empty. I wasn't sure why my mother wanted me home so badly no one was even there.
I walked up the stairs and looked around the floor. No one.
I then started walking up another flight of stairs but then heard yelling so I froze halfway up.
"I don't feel like you care." That was most definitely Ward.
"I said I do!" And that was Rafe.

I slowly continued to walk up the stairs as the yelling continued.
"Yeah, you said-"
"What more do you want me to say?!" Rafe interrupted Ward.
"I don't want you to say anything! Take care of business." Ward yelled.
As I made it to the top of the stairs I saw Sarah leaning against the wall, ease dropping.

"Sarah?" I whisper-yelled.
She looked over at me and smiled. Then held a finger up to her lips to tell me to shush.
I nodded my head and slowly made my way over to her so that I could ease drop too.
"Where are the generators?" Ward asked. "I gave you money for the back up generators. You said you would take care of it. Did you take care of it? Where are they?"
"They're on back order..." Rafe mumbled.

I watched as Sarah slowly shook her head, scoffing.
Ward scoffed. "Yeah, of course they are."
"There was a hurricane." Rafe told Ward.
"I tell you what-you know that Pogue I just fired?" Ward asked him. "Way more reliable than you."
I narrowed my eyebrows in confusion and looked over at Sarah. "Are they talking about John B? Did he get fired?"

"Really?" Rafe asked.
"Yeah, really!" Ward exclaimed.
Sarah slowly nodded her head. "Yeah, from steeling scuba gear from us."
"You need to get it together, Rafe."
"Oh-Shit..." I muttered.
"Or you can go live on the cut." Ward told him.
"Did you know about that?" Sarah asked.
I examined her face for a moment. "Did you?"
"What-No!"
I gasped. "You knew?!"
"That funny to you?!" Ward asked Rafe. "You can go live on the damn cut, Rafe, as far as i'm concerned"
Rafe chuckled. "Wow..."

"So you're the reason he got fired?!" I asked, taking a step away from her.
She scoffed. "No, actually, i'm not. But thanks for having faith in me."
"Now get out of here. I'm sick of looking at you." Ward told Rafe. "Make yourself useful somewhere, somehow."
I heard Rafes footsteps getting closer then the stopped. "Sarah's not working?"

I raised my eyebrows at Sarah, laughing a little bit. "You're not working and everyone else is?"
"This isn't about Sarah, Rafe. You're almost 20. You don't just get to sit back and have everything handed to you."
"Yes sir...." Rafe mumbled.
"It does not seem like you understand me-"
"I'll take care of those generators, okay?" Rafe clarified.
"i'll believe that when I see it." Ward spoke.

Just then Rafe walked through the door and slightly froze when he saw the two of us.
Sarah rolled her eyes at me and turned towards Rafe. "You shouldn't have bought that motorcycle with the generator money."
He just simply shook his head and walked away.
I did the same.

I walked straight out of the house. I didn't want to be there. I couldn't find my mother. Everyone was either working or fighting. It all just sucked.

I walked around the island for a little while before I eventually decided to go to the beach.
I hadn't been there, like, at all since I arrived at the OBX.
I didn't have my board so I couldn't surf but I didn't care.
I had a bathing suit on underneath of my clothes so I carefully stripped down into only that and jumped into the water.
It was cold, i'm not gonna lie. It was a high tide and the sun was beginning to set so the waves were big.

I would dive underneath of the waves as they came and went. Or I would try jumping over them just to fail and get swept under.
It was fun.
It was distracting.
But as I was in the water, all I could think of was the pogues. What were they doing? Was I missing out on a lot? Did they even care that I was gone?
I always thought of that when I was forced to go home. Like, home, home. Out of The Outer Banks.

But I was there. I was in The Outer Banks and not hanging out with them. How stupid was that?
I almost immediately got out of the water. I wanted to find them and help in anyway that I could to find the stupid gold that both my dad and John B were obsessed with.

As I was walking down the street just a few blocks away from the beach a car pulled over right behind me.
My heart dropped until I recognized who was in the car. It was Kelce.
"Yo, Haley!" He called out while he rolled down his window.
"Hey, Kelce." I spoke, fully turning around.
"Do you need a ride?" He asked me.
I looked behind me then back at Kelce. "Yeah, actually. That would be nice."
