dave was a boy. not a prince, not a plebeian. a boy. he grew up in the slums, all by himself, with many problems in his life. his problems started when he was little: he had never met his parents; or better, he met them, but he was too little to remember them. he never knew where they went or why they had abandoned him. the Old Nick, the man he lived with, said that they were going to be back soon. but every time dave would question himself saying "and when they will be back?" but his parents topic was just the point of the iceberg. his problems began when he became a teenager dave wasn't like other teenagers his age. all his friends had girlfriends, had already their first kiss or even lost their virginity. dave had never done any of those things. but not because he couldn't pull any woman, he was simply not interested in them, at all. in short words, he was a homosexual. and he was also in love with his male best friend. the fact is... his best friend was straight. and for the fear of be made fun of or even be kicked out from his friend group, he decided to keep his feelings to himself. to suffocate those feelings, he started training to become a knight. he had no money to buy a real sword, so he used random sticks he would find on his path. he was actually pretty talented. to talented that the knight's captain noticed his talent, so he decided to take him to the palace, where he was trained to become a knight. one day he was doing his usual training when all of the sudden the captain interrupted him saying "dave, the king wants to speak with you." dave's heart skipped a beat to those words. what would the king possibly want from him? he followed the captain to the throne room while his mind was spinning, his heart beating faster and faster as he wanted to know why the king wanted to see him so bad. his hands were shaking, a bit from fear, a but from excitement. as they got to the throne room, king eldarius was sitting on his throne like a god ready to judge the mortals. by his sides, there were the king's sons: hector and ares. hector wad the diplomatic one, ares was a crackhead and well known for begin a troublemaker. dave bowed to the royal family's sight, but king eldarius scolded him saying: "stand up son. no need to be this formal... what is your name knight"
"dave"
"very well dave, you might be wondering why i've called you here. well, my son, ares, needs a knight who will protect him by making other trouble... and voices told me you were the strongest knight over all the knights in the castle, even though you are very young.."
hearing his father's words, made ares face turn into a smug expression. he looked at his father with a disappointed expression, then said:
"father! i've told you so many times that i am not a baby! i don't need a babysitter to take care or me!"
king eldarius immediately scolded his youngest son, telling him to show some respect towards dave. dave glanced at ares. he was... intrigued by ares' rebellious attitude: he saw many princes before and they were all boring and lame; ares was different. and that different thing made him fall over heels for the prince. he put and hand on his chest and bowed.
"my lord, it will be a pleasure serving your son..."
the king smiled then spoke again.
"perfect! then ares, show dave his way to your chambers were he will stay too."
ares groaned, and tried to fight his father, but king eldarius immediately shut him down. ares groaned and stood up from his throne. he started walking towards his bedroom when he noticed that dave turned around, but did not followed him. ares got annoyed and said:
"do you want to walk or do you need someone to help you do it?"
dave's cheek turned a bright red from embarrassment as he was so immersed in glancing at the prince and didn't realised that the prince was walking. he immediately followed the prince ad they left the room to go into ares' chambers.
