The palace halls seemed to stretch endlessly as Dave made his way toward Ares' chambers, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the night. Each step was laden with uncertainty, but he refused to let doubt deter him. There was something between him and Ares, a connection that transcended the barriers of pride and prejudice. He couldn't simply walk away without trying to salvage what they had.
As he reached the door to Ares' chambers, Dave paused, taking a moment to collect his thoughts and steady his resolve. He knew that confronting Ares again was a risk, but he couldn't ignore the pull in his heart, the longing to understand why Ares had kissed him that fateful night.
With a steadying breath, Dave knocked softly on the door, his heart pounding in his chest. He heard movement from within, then the door swung open to reveal Ares standing before him, a mixture of surprise and guardedness in his eyes.
"What are you doing here, Dave?" Ares asked, his tone cautious.
Dave took a deep breath, summoning the courage to speak his truth. "I need to talk to you, Ares," he replied, his voice steady despite the nervous fluttering in his stomach.
Ares hesitated for a moment before stepping back to allow Dave to enter his chambers. The room was dimly lit by a few flickering candles, casting long shadows across the walls. Dave could feel the weight of their unresolved tension hanging in the air as he and Ares faced each other in silence.
"Speak your mind, then," Ares said, crossing his arms defensively.
Dave took a moment to gather his thoughts, his gaze never wavering from Ares' face. "I can't stop thinking about what happened between us," he began, his voice earnest. "At the party, when you kissed me...it felt like there was something real between us. Something more than just a drunken mistake."
Ares' expression softened slightly at Dave's words, a flicker of vulnerability shining through his usually stoic demeanor. "I...I don't know what came over me that night," he admitted, his voice tinged with regret. "I was drunk, and I made a foolish mistake."
Dave shook his head, refusing to accept Ares' dismissal so easily. "It wasn't just a mistake, Ares," he insisted. "There was something there, something between us that felt...right. And I can't help but wonder if you feel it too."
Ares sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "Even if there was something between us, Dave, it doesn't change the fact that I can never be with you," he replied, his voice heavy with resignation. "I am the prince of Asteria Kingdom, and my duty to my family and my kingdom must come before anything else."
Dave felt a pang of disappointment at Ares' words, but he refused to let it extinguish the flame of hope burning within him. "I understand that your duty is important to you, Ares," he said gently. "But what about your own happiness? Don't you deserve to pursue that, even if it means defying convention?"
Ares' gaze flickered with uncertainty, torn between his sense of duty and the yearning in his heart. "I don't know if I can," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
Dave took a step closer to Ares, reaching out to gently grasp his hand in his own. "You don't have to do this alone, Ares," he said softly. "I will stand by your side, no matter what obstacles we may face. Because I believe that our love is worth fighting for."
For a long moment, they stood there, locked in a silent battle of wills, each searching the other's eyes for a glimmer of understanding. And then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, Ares' resolve began to crumble, his defenses weakening under the weight of Dave's unwavering faith.
"I don't know what the future holds, Dave," he whispered, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "But I'm willing to try...for us."
A surge of hope welled up within Dave at Ares' words, a sense of relief flooding through him like a rushing tide. For in that moment, he knew that their love was not lost, that there was still a chance for them to find their way back to each other.
With a sense of renewed determination burning in his heart, Dave reached out and pulled Ares into his arms, holding him close as if afraid that he might disappear if he let go. And as they stood there, bathed in the warm glow of candlelight, Dave knew that no matter what trials and tribulations lay ahead, as long as they faced them together, their love would always endure.
