The sun rose over Asteria Kingdom, casting a golden hue over the once war-torn land. The distant echoes of battle had faded into the past, replaced by the quiet hum of a kingdom at peace. For Prince Ares, however, the dawn brought with it a sense of unease, a lingering shadow of worry that gnawed at his heart.
As the palace bustled with the return of the knights, Ares eagerly awaited the sight of Sir Dave among them. His heart fluttered with anticipation, his footsteps quickening as he made his way to the courtyard where the returning heroes would gather.
But as the knights filed into the palace, Ares's heart sank at the sight of an empty space among their ranks. Where was Dave? His absence gnawed at Ares, a cold knot of dread settling in the pit of his stomach.
Frantically, Ares sought out the knight captain, his voice trembling with barely contained fear. "Where is Sir Dave?" he demanded, his eyes wide with desperation.
The knight captain's expression was grave as he met Ares's gaze, his voice heavy with sorrow. Without a word, he reached out and placed a familiar helmet in Ares's trembling hands. Ares's heart clenched at the sight of it, his fingers tracing the familiar etchings of Dave's crest.
"He... he didn't make it," the knight captain murmured, his voice choked with emotion. "We were ambushed by surprise, and Sir Dave... he gave his life to save the others."
Ares's world shattered around him, the weight of the knight's words crashing down upon him like a tidal wave. Dave, his beloved knight, his confidant, his heart's desire... gone, taken from him in the blink of an eye.
Tears welled in Ares's eyes as he clutched Dave's helmet to his chest, his chest heaving with the weight of his grief. The palace seemed to blur around him, the sounds of celebration fading into the background as he mourned the loss of the man he loved.
In the days that followed, Ares wandered the halls of the palace in a daze, his heart heavy with sorrow. Everywhere he turned, he was met with reminders of Dave – the empty chair at the council table, the vacant spot in the courtyard where they once trained together, the echoing silence of the corridors they used to walk side by side.
But amidst the pain of his loss, a flicker of determination burned within Ares's heart. He would honor Dave's memory, he vowed, by living each day with courage and conviction, by striving to be the kind of leader Dave had believed him to be.
And so, as Asteria Kingdom forged ahead into a new era of peace, Ares carried Dave's memory with him, a silent guardian watching over the kingdom he had sworn to protect. And though Dave's physical presence was gone, his spirit lived on in the hearts of those who loved him, a beacon of hope in the darkest of times.
