The chill of the prison cell seeped into Dave's bones, wrapping around him like a suffocating blanket as he sat in the darkness, awaiting his fate. His heart weighed heavy with the uncertainty of what lay ahead, knowing that his love for Ares had led him down a path fraught with peril.
As the days stretched on, each one feeling longer and more agonizing than the last, Dave found himself consumed by thoughts of Ares. Memories of their stolen moments together haunted him, the warmth of Ares' touch a distant echo against the cold stone walls of his cell.
But even in his darkest moments, Dave clung to the flicker of hope burning within him, the belief that somehow, someway, they would find a way to be together, against all odds.
And then, one day, as he sat huddled in his cell, lost in the depths of despair, a familiar figure appeared before him, a ray of light cutting through the darkness.
"Ares?" Dave whispered, his voice hoarse with emotion as he struggled to comprehend the sight before him.
Ares approached, his expression pained as he took in the sight of Dave's gaunt form, the bruises marring his once handsome face. "I had to see you," he said softly, his voice trembling with emotion.
Dave felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes at the sight of Ares, his heart aching with longing for the touch of his beloved. "I've missed you," he confessed, his voice choked with emotion.
Ares sank to his knees beside Dave, reaching out to gently grasp his hands in his own. "I've missed you too," he replied, his voice thick with unshed tears.
For a long moment, they sat in silence, their hands intertwined as they struggled to find the words to express the depth of their love for one another. And then, finally, Ares spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I wish you were a girl," he said softly, his words hanging heavy in the air between them.
Dave's heart clenched at Ares' words, a bitter pang of longing twisting in his chest. He knew what Ares meant, knew the weight of the impossibility that hung between them like a specter.
But still, he couldn't help but feel a surge of indignation rise within him at the injustice of it all. "If I were a girl, would our love be any less real?" he demanded, his voice tinged with frustration.
Ares shook his head, his eyes brimming with tears as he reached out to brush a lock of hair from Dave's forehead. "No, of course not," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "But the world we live in...it's not so simple."
Dave felt a surge of anger rise within him at the unfairness of it all, the knowledge that their love was deemed unworthy simply because of who they were. "I refuse to accept that," he declared, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "Our love is worth fighting for, Ares, no matter the cost."
Ares regarded him for a long moment, his eyes searching Dave's face for any sign of doubt. And then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, a flicker of determination passed across his features, a spark of defiance shining bright amidst the darkness.
"You're right," he said softly, his voice filled with resolve. "Our love is worth fighting for, Dave. And I swear to you, no matter what happens, I will never stop fighting for us."
And as they sat there, bathed in the dim light of the prison cell, Dave felt a glimmer of hope flicker to life within him, a beacon of light shining bright amidst the shadows. For he knew that as long as they faced the challenges ahead together, their love would endure, unyielding and unbreakable, against all odds.
