In the serene embrace of the royal garden, Dave and Ares found sanctuary amidst the rustling leaves and fragrant blossoms. Their footsteps echoed softly on the winding paths as they walked hand in hand, lost in the quiet intimacy of the moonlit night.
But their solitude was shattered by the sudden intrusion of King Eldarius and Queen Valerian, their stern expressions cutting through the tranquil atmosphere like a sharp blade.
"Ares, Dave," King Eldarius called out, his voice carrying a weight of authority as he and the queen approached the two boys.
Dave's heart clenched with apprehension at the sight of the monarchs, a cold knot of fear settling in the pit of his stomach. He exchanged a worried glance with Ares, his hand tightening around his lover's as they braced themselves for the confrontation that was about to unfold.
"What is the meaning of this?" Queen Valerian demanded, her voice sharp with indignation as she fixed her gaze upon the two boys. "We were told you were in Ares' chambers, yet here you are, wandering the garden like common vagabonds."
Ares squared his shoulders, his jaw set in defiance as he faced his parents' disapproving stares. "We needed some time alone," he replied, his voice steady despite the turmoil roiling within him. "We did not mean to cause any alarm."
King Eldarius regarded his son with a mixture of concern and disappointment, his brow furrowing in thought. "You know the dangers of wandering the palace grounds at night, Ares," he chided gently. "We cannot allow you to put yourself at risk in such a manner."
Ares bristled at his father's words, his frustration mounting at the constant restrictions placed upon him. "I am not a child, Father," he retorted, his voice tinged with resentment. "I am capable of making my own decisions."
But before King Eldarius could respond, Queen Valerian stepped forward, her eyes ablaze with fury as she fixed her gaze upon Dave. "And what of you, knight?" she demanded, her voice sharp and accusatory. "Do you think you can simply waltz into our kingdom and corrupt our son with your deviant desires?"
Dave felt a surge of anger rise within him at the queen's words, but he forced himself to remain calm, knowing that lashing out would only make matters worse. "With all due respect, Your Majesty," he began, his voice steady despite the turmoil raging within him, "my feelings for Ares are genuine. I would never do anything to harm him."
Queen Valerian scoffed at Dave's words, her lip curling in disdain. "Your feelings mean nothing in the face of propriety, knight," she spat, her voice dripping with venom. "You are nothing but a commoner, unworthy of the prince's affections."
Dave bristled at the queen's words, his hands balling into fists at his sides. "Love knows no boundaries of rank or station," he insisted, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "And I will not apologize for loving your son."
King Eldarius regarded Dave with a mixture of sympathy and resignation, his gaze softening slightly at the knight's impassioned plea. "I understand your feelings, Dave," he said gently. "But you must understand that Ares' position as prince comes with certain responsibilities. We cannot simply ignore the implications of his actions."
Ares clenched his jaw in frustration at his father's words, his fists trembling with suppressed rage. "So you would rather sacrifice my happiness for the sake of appearances?" he demanded, his voice tinged with betrayal.
But before King Eldarius could respond, a voice rang out from the shadows, cutting through the tension like a knife.
"Perhaps you should listen to what your son has to say, Eldarius."
All eyes turned to see Hector emerging from the darkness, his expression grim but determined as he stepped forward to address his father.
"We cannot ignore the consequences of Ares' actions," Hector continued, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "He has jeopardized our family's honor and put our kingdom at risk. We cannot allow such recklessness to go unpunished."
King Eldarius regarded his son with a mixture of surprise and concern, his brow furrowing in thought. "What do you suggest, Hector?" he asked, his voice tinged with apprehension.
Hector's gaze flickered briefly to Dave and Ares before returning to his father, his jaw set in determination. "I suggest we arrest Dave, or even better, send him to death," he declared, his voice cold and unyielding. "Remove the source of this...disruption from our midst, and restore order to our kingdom."
Dave felt a chill run down his spine at Hector's words, his heart sinking at the realization of what was to come. He exchanged a worried glance with Ares, knowing that their love was about to be put to the ultimate test.
But as the weight of their uncertain future pressed down upon them, Dave and Ares found strength in each other's arms, their love a beacon of hope shining bright amidst the darkness that threatened to consume them. And as they faced the challenges ahead, they knew that no matter what trials and trib
