Maybe So

The group of guys was still here. At least Jani did in fact mop up the pie that fell to the ground. I was happy with how I dealt with that situation. Being a waitress I had my fair share of disrespectful asshats.

I was waiting on a different table when I heard the door jingle again. I was about to tell whoever it was that I'd be right with them, but when I turned around I was honestly glad.

"Hey Heather. Carrie's at a table over there if you want to sit with her." I told my best friend as I helped the table I was at. She gave me a smile and walked past Jani's table and sat with Carrie.

I was walking back to the counter to get the guys their bill. When I walked back to their table Jani and I made direct eye contact.

"Here's your bill, you can pay when your ready." I told them as I put it in the middle of the table, Jani and I once again making eye contact. I then walked over to where Heather and Carrie sat. "So what's the story about them?" Heather asked as she nodded her head towards Jani and his friends.

I sighed. "One of 'em is named Jani, and he's kind of an ass." I said honestly. "Well he and his friends are hot and he hasn't stopped looking at you." She said matter of factly.

I rolled my eyes. "That one, by the window. I like him." She said as she wiggled her eyebrows and got up. I shook my head as she walked to their table.

I got up and walked back behind the counter. I didn't want to watch her basically score whatever it was she was trying to get. I was in the middle of  throwing away old order papers when I heard a guy say hey. I looked up and saw Jani.

I initially thought he was here to pay his bill, but he kept talking. "Lori?" He questioned. I stopped what I was doing and looked at him.

"What do you want?" I questioned. Not wanting to talk to him. "To see if you'll accept my apology." He said. I gave him a skeptical look. "And why would I do that? You clearly don't respect me or other women so why?" I told him, referring to the whole cherry pie shit that got us introduced to each other.

"I wouldn't say that, exactly." Jani replied with a smirk. I rolled my eyes. "I can't accept an apology if there isn't one." I told him, getting fed up with this conversation. "Then here." He said as he gave me a napkin.

I took it and looked at it. Is this guy serious? His phone number? Get real. "For what? A lay? No way, man." I said as I held the napkin out for him to take back. He didn't take it, he just looked at me, waiting to see what I would do. So, instead, I grabbed the pile of old order papers I had before, and threw them, along with the napkin into the trash bin that was under the counter.

"Now you're just playing hard to get." Jani quipped as he watched me. I shook my head as a seemingly humorless smiled played at my lips. I decided to lean over the counter so I was now face to face with him.

"It's kinda difficult to play hard to get when I'm not even in the playing field." I told him, trying to be flirtatious just to fuck with him. He stared at me like he had been since he and I 'met'. I couldn't say anything else as I saw Heather running excitedly over to us.

She was on the other side of the counter with Jani. She was standing so she could face both he and I. "What the fuck got into you?" I questioned her as I stopped leaning over the counter.

"Lor, we have plans tonight!" Heather said excitedly. "Doing what exactly?" I questioned her. There was a big fat chance that I couldn't do whatever it was Heather was talking about. I have to take care of Carrie.

"Going to a club with the guys." She told me. I immediately shook my head no. "Uh-Uh, no." I told her. "Why not?" She questioned as she folded her arms. "Heather, I have Carrie, I have to watch Carrie." I explained.

She shook her head. "Don't worry about the kid, my mom will watch her." Heather said with a smile. I stared at her. She really wasn't going to take no for an answer.

"C'mon you need this! And besides, the guys are cool!" She said as she pointed behind her to the guys with her thumb. I looked to Jani and then to Heather again. "Maybe so." Is the only thing I said. Heather then started to get all excited again. She didn't say anything else to me as she went back to the guys' table.

I heard Jani chuckle so I looked at him. "What?" I asked confused as to why he was laughing. I didn't find anything about today funny. "Nothing. But apparently I have plans tonight." He smirked. I rolled my eyes again.

He just couldn't take a break could he? "Oh, get bent." I told him. He just smiled and chuckled again as he paid his bill. Thank god. Now only if I didn't have to see him later tonight, but of course, Heather forced me to go with her.

The guys finally left and my little world at the diner went back to being somewhat serene.

It was a few hours after the guys left and I was just about ready to leave. "What time are we supposed to meet them and where?" I questioned Heather, not really interested in this.

She told me we were supposed to meet them at 6 and at the Whiskey. She said she'd see me later and I said the same. I then grabbed my stuff and Carrie, driving home.

This day has been fucking tiring and the night? Fuck tonight.
