After I got done getting ready for work, I ate my breakfast on the couch as Jani and Carrie finished up theirs.
I grabbed their plates and put them in the sink. I'd wash them when I got back home tonight.
I had Carrie grab some stuff she wanted to take to my moms and then we were off.
"Hey Care Bear!" My mom said as she opened Carrie's door. "Grama!" Carrie exclaimed as she got out of her car seat and grabbed her bag. She and I said goodbye and I told my mom I'd come get her later.
When they were inside the house, I reversed out of the driveway and started off down the road. "Okay, so where do you live?" I questioned Jani.
"On Westrode." Jani replied. I nodded and started the drive to Jani's. He told me his address on the street and I stopped in front of an apartment building.
He didn't get out yet, he turned to face me instead. "So, what time do I pick you up?" He questioned with a sly smile. I rolled my eyes.
I kind of forgot I agreed to go out on a date with him.
I shook my head. "That can't happen tonight or at all this week. Maybe Friday or Saturday. It just depends." I told him honestly. "Why not?" He questioned.
"Because I have to work, and if you don't get out soon, I'm going to be late." I told him, not down to be late to work.
He got the memo and got out, saying he might stop by the diner later. I was not looking forward to that.
I got to work with four minutes to spare, thank fucking god.
I clocked in put my waitressing apron on, grabbed a pen and pad, then started tables. I was in the middle of getting coffee to lady who was there with her mom when the owner/manager of this place decided it was time to have a meeting.
About what? Fuck if I know. So here we all were, in the kitchen. "I'd like to add something else to the diner, that'll make people feel a sense of happiness. Which is why, waitresses will now have something new to your uniforms." He stated.
I furrowed my eyebrows. Don't get me wrong, the guy who runs this place, my boss; he was nice and wasn't a jerk like other people I've worked for. I just wanted to know what it was us waitresses had to add to our uniforms.
I watched as he picked up a box and pulled something out of it. I mentally groaned. Roller Skates. We were going to have to wear roller skates while we worked.
The cooks and the dishwasher laughed and snickered as they returned to their jobs in the kitchen, meanwhile us waitresses got our skates and put them on.
"I haven't roller skated in who knows how long." My coworker Deana said. I nodded and grabbed the counter for support before I did any crazy shit, like actually get food to people.
"Me and you both." I told her as I finally got the courage to go to a table and take their order. Taking the orders and skating in general was relatively easy, once you got used to the skating. But skating while holding food and drinks?
Im gunna either fall on my ass, my face, or both.
As the day went, it eventually got easier, except every so often when I'd lose my balance for a second and almost eat shit.
I was in the middle of skating to a table that ordered two milkshakes and I actually got there faster, without spilling, dropping them, or falling.
The bell on the door jingled and I looked up to see Jani. I slowly but surely skated over to him. "Do you want a table or something?" I asked him. I know he said he was going to come by earlier, but I guess I tried convincing myself that he was just messing with me.
He nodded as he smirked and looked at the skates that were now paired with my uniform. I rolled my eyes and lead him over to a booth in the corner.
"What would you like?" I questioned him as I got my pen and pad out, acting like we didn't know each other's names, like we were strangers.
We might as well be to be honest. He ordered a burger with fries and a coke. At least it wasn't any of the Cherry pie shit from yesterday.
It was really weird timing because It was almost time for my break.
I went to other tables and waited on them until Jani's food was done.
When it was, I grabbed his order and skated back to his table. He thanked me and gave me a small smile and then I skated away.
It was low key weird, I mean him not being a dick and actually being more gentleman like.
Since I worked at the diner, I could get lunch and dinners for free while I worked, so I ordered myself food and waited for it to be done as I waited more tables.
When my food was done, I grabbed it and decided to skate over to Jani. I placed my food across from him and sat down.
"Now this is is a change." Jani stated as he looked at me. I rolled my eyes and took a French fry off of my plate. "It's not my fault you came here right as I was about to get my break." I told him honestly.
"I mean you decided to sit here." Jani replied with an all too familiar smirk.
I rolled my eyes and took a sip of my drink. "Well, Heather so kindly disappeared with your friend Steven last night, I don't have a way to contact Erik, and I haven't really hung out with the other two." I told him honestly.
"This is like, last resort type of company." I replied with a smirk of my own.
He was the one to roll his eyes this time. "Well then this is a change." Jani replied looking at me. Like looking at all of me.
"I dig the skates." He added with that smirk. I looked at him and smirked too, leaning over the table a bit so we were closer, then I took one of my feet and kicked him in the shin as hard as I could.
It hurt him and I knew it would too. "So do I." I replied quietly as I stopped leaning over the table and went to eating my food, Jani rubbing his shin with his hand.
What the hell were we doing?
