Advice From A Rockstar

It was the next day and I was actually okay. I ate breakfast and got ready for work.

After I got ready for work, I figured I'd get some of Carries stuff to keep her occupied while I worked.

I went to her room and grabbed a few coloring books and what not along with some crayons and markers.

I then left. When I got to my moms, I knocked on the door. She didn't even come out to talk to me, all she did was open the door and let Carrie out like she was some dog.

Had I offended her? If anyone was offended it was me. She had no right, no fucking right. I am nothing like Ginny, so obviously I had to stand up for myself yesterday.

When the door closed, I grabbed Carries hand and we walked to my car. I got her situated in to her car seat and eventually we were on our way to my work.

First thing I did when I got there was get Carrie situated in the booth I always sat her at when she was with me. The booth in the corner.

I then clocked in and went to put on my skates.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Fuck these roller skates.

It wasn't that busy, but I knew it was going to be around lunch. I sighed and skated over to my first table. All the guy wanted was a cup of coffee and I mentally thanked him.

I didn't have to try and balance a tray or plate of food on my arm while simultaneously trying to keep my balance on the skates. Coffee I could do, it was easy.

The whole day ended up like that, even the lunch hour. Easy. I was glad. I had two more hours left until my shift ended. I was bringing some dinner to Carrie when the bell on the door jingled.

I expected it to be my mom, or Heather, or even Jani. But when I turned around it was neither of them. I put Carrie's plate down in front of her and skated over to him.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I questioned Erik with a friendly smile. I haven't seen him since the night Heather dragged me to the Whiskey with all of them.

"Hey Lori, wanted to see how you were." He replied. I nodded. "Well, I'm working right now, but you can always sit with Carrie until my break, then maybe we can chat and catch up." I told him honestly.

Even though I haven't known Erik or his band for long, I thought it was pretty obvious that he or the other guys wouldn't hurt a fly.  So trusting Jani and Erik with Carrie wasn't a bad decision.

He nodded and went to Carrie's table. I decided I'd be nice and get him something.

I decided to get him a drink and a burger.

If he'd turn it down he's weird. No one in their right mind would turn down free food, especially if it's a cheese burger with fries and all that good shit.

I got him his food and skated back to the table that he and Carrie were at. The both of them were coloring and apparently having a conversation about whatever it was that a rockstar and a 5 year old could converse about.

I set the plate in front of Erik. "What's this?" He questioned me with a small smile. "I was feeling nice." I shrugged.

He thanked me and started eating his food, while also still talking to Carrie.

It was cool of him to come here. Not just to see how things were, but for him to hangout with Carrie while I worked.

It was nice of him.

When it came down for my break, I got myself food and went to the corner booth. I sat across from Erik and Carrie.

"So, how are things?" Erik questioned me. I shook my head.

Things have honestly been a traveling shit show. "They're...going?" I stated, not sure how to word how everything was pretty much fucked.

"How are they going?" He questioned. I sighed. "Not well." I told him honestly. I'm glad Carrie was in her own world, paying no attention to the conversation that Erik and I were having.

I told him how I took Jani back to my house the other night, how we watched Snow White, the weird conversation that Jani and I had the next morning, me agreeing to go on a date with Jani just so he'd stop asking, and finally how my mom and I were currently not talking.

"Can I offer some advice...or just shit I know?" Erik questioned, being friendly once more. "Advice from a rockstar? This outta be good." I joked. He chuckled at that and then spoke.

"Jani's not as bad as you think he is." Erik stated. I rolled my eyes, but over all decided to hear him out. "He can be an ass, yes. But all of us can. I can say that when the bands together, he talks nonstop about you. And I'm not just backing him up because he's my friend, I'm backing him up because you're my friend." He explained.

I stared at Erik. I don't think he'd lie to me, but the subject of Jani Lane was still very wary.

"I'm just saying, sometimes the best person for you, is the person you'd least expect it to be." Erik stated.

He made complete sense. I nodded. "How do I know?" I questioned him. Erik shrugged. "You don't, it takes time." He stated.

I nodded again. My break was almost over and Erik and I were now talking to Carrie about random things that 5 year olds talked about.

I was broken away from the conversation when the bell of the door jangled. I turned to see who entered the diner. My expression changed when I saw Jani.

Maybe Erik was right.
