How DARE she?? Draco thought, still wincingly backstabbed on his own bed. A CRUSH? A BLOODY CRUSH! MERLIN! It wasn't a crush - he panicked. For once in his life that he had been able to express & receive true platonic affection, it was that? Just a mere infatuation?! And, let's not glaze over the fact they were BOYS, and WEASLEYS.
Draco was losing his mind. He had to admit, that girl had balls. And if it was not for the extremely unpleasant situation he found himself in, he would have probably liked her. After all, she had been an amazing sport the other day, and she had just proven herself to be on his level.
"A CRUSH!?" Draco anxiously roared again, panting. How- how was that in any way possible? He managed to gather his own weight, and crawled on 4 legs to his desk, taking the note and unfolding it. He read it speedily, his eyes darting from left to right. No. There was no way. It wasn't a crush. He knew his mind better than she could. He wasn't stupid. He had grit, determination, self-assurance. He couldn't be controlled by stupid feelings - feelings he wasn't even aware of.
"NO!" he squawked, sweating. He leaned on his chair, holding it with trembling clammy hands. Noone could tell him what he felt! It was nothing! He simply liked them - yes, just liked! And that friendship was unusual and seemed to have sparked by pure coincidence, almost a stroke of magic, but... He didn't need to put a label on it. They were his friends, simply put. Fred. And George. Two friends. Two pen-pals. Two nice men who had helped him in time of need.
Draco panickedly swallowed the memory of when he had stared between his legs in the shower, or that damned memory of Fred's fingers on his lip. He shook it all off, and stared out the window with determination. Friends. They were friends. He was a Malfoy, surely, he wouldn't have a crush, let alone on a boy... two boys... two Weasleys. He shook his head, took Harriet's note, and shredded it to scraps. That would teach her- that would teach everyone something.
He stared grudgingly at Twiggles, his hands still quivering on his chair. He unruffled the bird's feathers.
No, he wasn't going to write another letter, he couldn't... he couldn't focus.
Draco carefully pried the window open, and held the bird in his palms. He sent it off again, without a reply. A second after watching her flutter away into the grey skies, he was already regretting it.
