The following week, the three friends had agreed to the pact Fred had set up, mostly just for fun. Wanking was allowed, but they weren't allowed to touch each other or see each other without clothes on, and kissing had to stay casual. Well, obviously, Fred made that pact to bend the rules at his will, and just to mess with all of them.

Draco found it increasingly hard to concentrate on his studies. Not only were they incredibly boring, but he found himself lacking patience. The twins occupied a lot of his mental space. Draco knew that he wanted this relationship to be more than just physical, but he had never really known how to progress things in that realm. Being controlling and horny was one thing, but never in a million years could he imagine himself, I don't know, handing out some flowers or something.

He had visited the Burrow another time that week. Molly and Arthur had been friendly. Arthur was an unusually curious man, who paid lots of attention when Draco spoke about his father and family. He seemed very non-judgemental, and had no issue with his children being friends with a Malfoy.

Every time the three of them were in the vicinity of each other, they had to restrain themselves. But obviously, the fun was to make each other break. Saying absurdly seductive things, wrestling, pushing each other, or pretending to moan to cause a raucus. Draco sometimes felt insecure about their friendship. Something in him told him he would end up disappointing them somehow, that he couldn't match their boundless optimism.

The letter-writing set out to be more friendly, but you can bet Fred was writing the most obscene out-of-pocket sexual things he could ever think of. Draco already had a date planned with George on Friday, then Fred on Saturday.

The date with George was alright, surprisingly quite awkward

The date with George was alright, surprisingly quite awkward. Draco realised he didn't know much at all about either of them, and there was a constant lingering sense of awkwardness in the air, like two people that had nothing in common were just thrown in one place and commanded to bond.

They spent the day by a river-part, not so far from Hogsmede. Fred couldn't resist spying on them with an extendable ear, God knows how he even managed to follow them there. He gave Draco a huge jumpscare.

But Draco recognised that George was incredibly sweet, shy and considerate. His eyes beamed whenever he got to speak about his pranks and inventions, Quidditch, or any kinds of inside joke he had with his friends. He was a kid inside, Draco didn't feel like a kid at all. If anything, he had always hated children and strived to be nothing like them.

The second date wasn't better

The second date wasn't better. Fred got on Draco's nerves with his constant sarcasm and energy. The boy couldn't sit still and always needed to have some sort of challenge and could barely take anything seriously, always flirting. They had met up at Hogsmeade, which was a mistake Draco recognised, because the liveliness of the place just made Fred incredibly scattered. Luckily, they flew onto their brooms in the evening, and that was an incredibly blissful moment, chasing each other like kids over fields of brown grass.

His feelings for them were incredibly mixed. On one end, Draco wasn't used to friendships of all sorts, and he wanted to be able to truly commit to the twins. Not some kind of superficial thing where they could break each others promises. But on the other, he thought they were terrible candidates for a friendship, he would've had more luck with some 1st year Slytherins, even they would have probably been more mature.

It was irritating. Draco needed to be able to control things, in one way or another. He didn't like their boundless need for freedom. He didn't like their inside jokes and how they stood up to his authority. And most of all, he didn't like that they were better than him at something, several things. They were better at affection, at being funny, and... at being happy.

Their constant joy made Draco recoil. He didn't understand it. How could one be so passionate about silly toys, sports, playing with children, or mere gossip? Draco had mostly been motivated by power, control, or mere determination all his life. He wasn't sure what made him happy, though he was well aware of his own emotions. It's not that he didn't experience joy, it's just that he didn't see it. Like some kind of magic he felt too shrewd for.
