The following day, Draco wrote up a letter:

I've considered your words. My apologies have been sent to your brother.
If you don't mind, I'd like to meet you again for more than a minute, same time, same place, this evening if possible.

It might not work, but it was worth a shot. He busied the rest of his day with reading and walks, which he took to spy on others or scheme new plans. There always seemed something Draco was trying to figure out, some missing thing. Not only was he numb, but his new apathy was making him oddly indifferent to everything. He almost found himself wanting to cause havoc for fun, kill an owl for the sake of it, smash a window, bully a student. It was exceedingly boring trying to keep himself straight all the time.
