The large, creaking doors of the Great Hall opened in front of him, and Felix stepped inside. He was immediately hit with a comforting wall of warmth, and the soft glow of brilliant candlelight.

He gazed around the room in awe, taking in the cavernous ceiling which was adorned with twinkling stars and hundreds of floating candles. Huge ornate windows lined the gigantic stone walls, light flickering off the stained glass. Felix felt his mouth drop open as he took in the four long tables, piled high with delicious looking foods, their smells finally reaching him as he inhaled the tantalising smells deeply.

Only then was his attention drawn to the hundreds of eyes that were gazing up at him, and Felix felt a nervous smile creep onto his lips. The Headmaster beckoned for Felix to follow him, and together they made their way through the now silent Hall, their footsteps echoing off the stone tiles.

They stopped at the front of the room, where a kind faced woman was waiting holding what appeared to be a ratty old wizard's hat. She smiled warmly at Felix and beckoned him forward. Felix slowly walked up the few steps toward her and when prompted, sat down on the small wooden stool. He felt a little embarrassed, the stool underneath him tiny and clearly designed for bodies much smaller than his.

The red headed woman stepped up beside him and placed the hat down on Felix's head, which immediately starting talking to him. Felix yelped in surprise, prompting a few snickers around the hall.

"Hmmm, interesting

"Hmmm, interesting. You're older than the others," the hat mused aloud. Felix was frozen on his seat in complete surprise. Magic was still very new to him, and no one mentioned a talking hat!

"You come here with pretences and preconceptions - certain expectations," the hat continued.

"I can't wait to explore the castle and the grounds," Felix muttered in response.

"Hmmmm, I wonder. I detect something in you. A certain sense of - hmm - what is it?"

Felix gulped, not sure whether he was meant to respond or not.

"Yesss, I see. Well, better be- HUFFLEPUFF!" the hat yelled.

Felix looked over at a table of students that were suddenly on their feet and cheering, a welcoming sea of yellow. He sighed in relief and stood from the stool, watching as the kind faced woman waved her wand and his uniform transformed to show his new house crest, with honey yellow accents on his uniform and robes.
