Ominis POV

There was applause at the Slytherin table as the final first year was sorted into their house. Ominis was sat bored, half-listening with his head propped up in his hand. He'd given up pretending to clap ages ago.

Ominis was hoping they'd be dismissed when he heard a new pair of footsteps at the back of the hall.

"Who's that?" he heard someone whisper from nearby.

"Eh up," Sebastian said, nudging Ominis. "New guy finally showed up."

Ominis turned his head in the direction of the footsteps, curiosity slightly peaked. It was rare, after all, for someone to start Hogwarts so late, especially if the rumours were true that they had no prior magical training. It was bizarre, unheard of, for someone's magic to bloom so late.

"Better be... Hufflepuff!" the Sorting Hat called.

Ominis smirked as he heard Sebastian slump back disappointed. He let his head drop back into his hand.

"...must announce that Quidditch this year is cancelled," Professor Black called.

Across from Ominis and Sebastian, Imelda rose from her seat and started yelling angrily, her shouting echoed across the hall from other tables.

Ominis rolled his eyes. He wasn't really bothered about Quidditch, given that he couldn't see it.

Eventually, they were finally permitted to leave, and Ominis sighed gratefully, already dreaming of the four poster bed that was waiting for him that he didn't have to share with Sebastian, unlike during the summer. He couldn't wait to stretch out and have his space all to himself.

"It just would've been cool if they were in our house!" Sebastian whined as they got ready for bed

"It just would've been cool if they were in our house!" Sebastian whined as they got ready for bed.

"Yes, I heard you the first fifty times," Ominis sighed. Sebastian had been whittling on the entire way back to the common room and for the last twenty minutes while they unpacked their things.

"Where's your house passion, Ominis?" Sebastian teased.

"In the same place as your common sense," Ominis bantered, pulling his pyjama top over his head.

Sebastian laughed loudly. "I wonder if he's any good at duelling? I could do with a new competitor who's more on my level," he wondered aloud.

"Trust me, Sebastian, there's no one on your level," Ominis mumbled.

"Thanks mate," Sebastian grinned, not catching the sarcasm in his best friend's voice.

Ominis rolled his eyes and let his head flop back on the pillow. He yawned and was about to roll over when Sebastian spoke up again.

"Wait, were you being sarcastic?"

"Go to bed, Sebastian."
