Ellis PoV:
I was speed walking home from school, it's about 4:15 p.m and I was supposed to be home at 4.
Our teacher kept us in class a bit longer because he wanted to finish the subject we started last week and he wouldn't let me go home even when I told him i really had to. I honestly despise that man.
"Your father will understand. Now quit whining and concentrate or we are going to be here even longer." Is what he said.
I reached the house and quietly unlocked the door, praying that he wouldn't hear me. I reached the stairs and was about halfway up when I heard him shout.
"ELORA! You come right back here young lady!"
I sighed, put my bag down and walked into the living room, keeping my head low.
"Why are you late?" He asked angrily.
"I...the teacher wouldn't let me leave." I said quietly.
He raised his hand and brought it down hitting me right across the face.
I covered it with my hands, tears immediately starting to fall.
"You're blaming other people for YOUR mistakes now?" He asked with so much anger in his voice.
"I didn't m... mean to" I chocked out, now trying to look up at him.
"Go to your room, I do not want to see you again today. And definitely no dinner for you!" He spat.
I turned around and started to walk towards the stairs, picking up my backpack on the way, when he pushed me forward. "Hurry up I'm sick and tired of your crying!" I tripped and my arm got caught between the railings instantly feeling a sharp pain go through it.
I pulled it towards me and sat down on the stairs, holding my arm close to my chest.
I didn't feel too much pain, must be the adrenaline but I could see my arm was obviously broken.
Looking up I saw my dad whose face was full of shock. Never had he hurt me like that. But he wasn't sorry, he was scared because he knew as well as I did that we need to go to the hospital.
"Get up." He commanded simply and I did as he said, following him to the car.
Sitting in the car he turned to me.
"We are going to the hospital and you hurt your arm because you're clumsy and you fell. If you say anything else, they will take you away and you will be all alone. Do you understand?"
I nodded.
"I can't hear you!" He spat at me.
"Yes sir." I said quickly, still trying to hold back tears.
We arrived at the hospital a few minutes later, since it's not far from our house. Dad took my good arm, forcefully pulling me through the doors.
We were told to wait a little and he gave me the silent treatment the whole time we were sat in the waiting area.
Except for the occasional,
"Don't act like a baby" and "Pull yourself together" as I cried.
We finally got called to a room and a blonde lady doctor came in.
"Hi I'm doctor Robbins" She said kindly, shaking my dad's hand and then turning to me. "And you must be Elora." She said, looking at her tablet and then up at me with a smile. I didn't answer, too preoccupied with containing my emotions.
"Don't be rude!" Dad said harshly.
"Yeah I'm Elli" I brought myself to say.
Dr Robbins examined my arm, did an x-ray and put it in a cast, she was gentle but it still hurt a lot.
She then took another look at the tablet and furrowed her brows. I don't think dad noticed, he was on his phone the entire time.
"I have to run and get something really quick, before I can let you go okay? I'll be right back." She said and left the room before my dad could stop her.
Carinas PoV:
I had just finished delivering the second baby today when Arizona paged me.
I quickly went down to PEDs to meet her.
"Hey, what's up? Everything okay?"
I asked when I got there.
She immediately started talking.
"You told me about a little girl two weeks ago, remember? You said her name was Elli right?"
"Yes why?" I asked in confusion. My heart beating a little faster in my chest.
"I think she's here. Her name is Elora but she introduced herself as Elli. She's here with her father, who doesn't seem very concerned and she didn't say anything about her ribs but she's definitely sore based on her movements." Arizona explained.
"Definitely sounds like her. But why are they here? She was so scared of going to the hospital." I questioned.
"Her arm is broken. I guess that's harder to hide than a broken rib." She explained with a sad voice and my heart sank.
"Poor bambina. I swear if he did that to her I'll kill him myself."
"Well before you do, please call social services, I need to go back in there or he'll get suspicious."
"Of course I'll call them right away." I said and she turned to get back to them.
I can't believe she might actually be here. I might get another chance to save her.
A little while later social services arrived and I explained everything. I walked them to the room she was in and we headed in together.
Ellis eyes immediately met mine and I could see she had been crying.
The social worker, accompanied by a police officer introduced herself and they took the man standing behind Elli outside to talk. He didn't go without protest though. Before he left the room he shot his daughter a glare. "Don't you dare tell lies!" He snapped at her. Elli flinched.
The door closed and I turned towards her again. "Hey, remember me?"
She didn't answer but burst into tears instead. "Oh no don't cry piccola, you're save now. Everything will be okay."
I said softly and walked towards her. I was about to take her hands in mine but she wrapped her arms around my waist instead. I held her close and let her cry her little heart out, rubbing her back gently. Arizona smiled at me sadly before saying she would go see what's going on outside and leaving.
Ellis PoV:
Carina felt save and warm. She pulled back after a little while and wiped my tears with her thumbs.
„Are they going to take me away now.?
I asked, scared of what the answer might be.
„I don't know bambina. But i know that I won't let him hurt you anymore." She answered.
„But it's my fault."
„No. No it's not your fault Elli. Did he say that it was?."
I nodded honestly. For some reason I felt like I could trust her with the truth.
„Well it's not. Nobody should ever hurt a child, no matter what. Do you understand?" She said.
I didn't know what to say or do but I know I want to be near her. Instead of responding, I held my arms out again and her face softened a little more as she wrapped me in a hug once again.
Carinas PoV:
Holding her felt right. Like it was meant to be. We stayed in the hug a little longer until the door opened again and the social worker walked in.
„Alright Elora, let's get going." She said with little emotion. Elli looked up at me, her eyes full of fear.
„Hold on a minute. Where are you taking her?" I asked, not leaving Ellis side.
„Doctor Robbins gave us enough evidence to take her out of the house she lives in. She'll be in a group home until we find a suitable placement." She explained, almost seeming a bit annoyed that I would even ask.
I was angry but held my composure. „Can I talk to you outside for a minute?"
„Fine. But I don't have all day." She said, leaving the room. I was about to follow her but Elli grabbed my sleeve and held me back, her eyes begging for me to stay.
„I'll be right back, I promise." I said and she reluctantly let go. I left the room and joined the social worker, holding out my hand to introduce myself.
„I'm doctor Carina DeLuca Bishop."
„Carol Jones" She answered.
„I'd like to foster Elora." I blurted out, surprised by my own words.
It was the only thing that felt right.
She just scoffed. „Are you licensed?"
„Yes. My wife and I got our foster license about a month ago."
Maya and I had gotten it just in case having a baby of our own really wouldn't work.
„I'll have to make a call. Have you talked to your wife about this?" She answered, still looking at me suspiciously.
„I haven't but I'll call her right away."
I said confidently.
„Alright then I'll get back to you in a bit."
She said and walked away to make her phone call.
I walked in the opposite direction and called Maya.
God I hope she's not too mad.
