I'm really sorry for not updating in so long. I tried to whip up a new part for you. It's short but I hope you like it.
Let me know what you think.Elli had fallen asleep in Carinas arms. There was nothing peaceful about that sleep.
She would move restlessly without waking up and occasionally started to breathe heavier, as if there was a literal weight on her chest.
Carina didn't want to leave the girl, but she couldn't not check on Maya either.
So, she took her phone out of her pocket and opened the chat with her wife.Carina: „Are you alright Bella?"
After just a few seconds Maya replied.
Maya: „I ruined everything."
Carina: "You were frustrated and said things you shouldn't have, but she'll be fine."
Just then, Elli stirred and woke up this time, so Carina put away her phone to concentrate on her foster daughter.
„Carina?" Elli whispered.
„Sí tesoro. I'm here."
Elli simply looked at her with those big, blue eyes, tear tracks on her rosy cheeks, the wheels in her head visibly turning.
"I didn't mean to make you fight."
Carinas heart dropped.
"No Elli, we were both very brought up because of your social worker. You didn't do anything wrong bambina."
Elli started to breathe quicker again.
"But...Maya said...and earlier...and I didn't..." she started to stutter, not sure herself what she wanted to say.
"Hey, hey, hey, listen to me, ..." Carina interfered quickly, deciding to tell the truth, making the girl look her in the eyes.
"Maya said what she said, because she's scared."
Ellis expression turned from upset to utterly confused.
"She's scared that Carol might not let you stay with us. That's why she got upset. And I did too."
She explained honestly.
"Sometimes when people get upset or sad and overwhelmed, they react by saying things they don't mean."
Elli didn't answer right away, just gathering her thoughts.
Carina gave her time. Finally she spoke up. "You want to keep me here? Both of you?"
Carina couldn't help but smile at that thought.
"Yes bambina, we'd love that. If you want that, of course."
Elli just nodded and hugged Carina a bit closer."Now, I think Maya feels really bad about how she made you feel.
Wanna go see her?"
Carina wanted to get to her wife. The pain she saw when the blonde walked out earlier, made her worry.
"Mhm" Elli answered, starting to get up.They entered the living room hand in hand and walked over to the couch where Carina thought Maya was.
But as they turned around the corner, they found it empty.
"Maya?" Carina called out, scanning the room with her eyes to find her wife.
Maya was nowhere to be seen.
The Italian bent down to Ellis level.
"How about you go do one of those new puzzles and I'm going to call Maya ok?"
"Okay" Elli said sweetly and walked off to her room.
She wasn't quite sure if she believed what Carina had told her. What Maya said earlier sounded pretty clear to her.
But she wanted to believe Carina.
She really really wanted to.Meanwhile the Italian dialled her wife's number.
It rang a couple of times. No answer.
She called again, now walking around the room. As she walked past their shoes at the front door, she noticed Mayas running shoes were missing.
She had suspected it, but did think they were past this, literally running away from situations like this.
Just as she was about to hang up again, Maya answered.Maya had left the house about an hour earlier, now jogging through the near by park. She didn't want to run because she knew it was no healthy coping mechanism but she couldn't bear to sit still either.
So she compromised.
Just as she passed the ice cream parlour they had been at with Elli, her phone started to vibrate in her pocket.
She didn't answer, knowing it must be her wife.
But as the vibrating stopped and started again soon after, she realised how unfair she was being. This was not Carinas fault.
So she stopped to sit down on a bench, took out her phone and answered it.
"Hey babe, I'm sorry." She said honestly.
Though at the same time Carina started talking as well.
"Maya! I thought we weren't doing this anymore!" She was speaking quietly but Maya could hear her frustration.
They were both quiet for a moment.
Finally, Carina spoke.
"I know you are."
"How is she?" Maya asked carefully.
"She'll be fine but we need to be honest with her. We broke her trust."
"You mean I did." Maya interrupted.
Carina sighed. "Will you just come home please? We will figure this out."
