Come home

Mayas PoV:
I had gone to Jo's bar with the team after a successful 24 hour shift, when my phone started to ring.
"My love ❤️" popped up on the screen and I excused myself before stepping outside to take the call.
"Hi babe, everything okay?"
"Maya, I need you to come to the hospital." She said. I could hear her voice was shaking a little.
I immediately got worried. "Why? Is everything okay? Are you okay?" I asked quickly, already making my way across the street to the hospital.
"I'm fine bella, don't worry. But there's something I need to tell you."
"I'll be right there." I answered walking through the doors. I hung up and headed to her office.
"What is it?" I asked when I came in and saw how stressed she was.
"Elli is here." She said.
"Oh god, is she okay?"
"Yes. And no. Her father broke her arm and now they are going to put her into the system. Unless..." She stopped.
"Unless what Carina?"
"I told them we'd take her." She confessed.
I let go of her hand, I had been holding.
"You did that without talking to me first?"
"I'm sorry Maya but they would have taken her away!" She said trying to reach for my arm. I put my hands up to signal that I didn't want her to touch me right now.
"You don't make that kind of decision without your partner." I said frustratedly.
„Well what was I supposed do do?"
„Talk to me first Carina!" I answered, a little louder than intended.
„I'm talking to you now! Nothing is official yet. We don't have to take her in, if you're going to abandon her based on a principle!" She said, a bit mad now.
„No Carina! Of course we're taking her in. I just wish you would have called me earlier!"
Her demeanour changed as soon as the words left my mouth.
„We are?" She asked, tears now forming in her eyes.
I calmed down just as fast as she did and smiled softly, pulling her into a hug.
„Yes we're taking her home." I whispered in her ear and she hugged me a little tighter.

„But I'll have to finally meet her first." I said as I pulled back. She took my cheeks in her hands and kissed me gently.
„Sí, let's go. But we need to talk to the social worker first about all the details."
She said, pulling me with her out the door.

Ellis PoV:
I had been sitting in the hospital room for a while now, nobody coming to check on me.
Through the glass door I could see the social worker walking up and down the hall while on a phone call.
Carina talked to her earlier and then just left. I was about to go and ask the rude social worker what was going to happen now when I saw Carina come back, hand in hand with a slightly shorter blonde woman. After The three of them talked for a little and they signed some kind of paperwork, Carina and the other women came back in the room and I looked at the brunette, expecting she'd say something, which she did.
"Hey, Elli. I'd like to introduce you to my wife, this is Maya."
Maya stepped forward and offered me her hand. "Hi there little one. I've heard so much about you, glad we finally meet."
She had the same kind tone of voice that Carina did and I excepted the handshake.
"What's happening now?" I asked. I know my dad wasn't supposed to hurt me, although it was my fault. I just don't want to go to a group home.
"We wanted to ask you something sweetie." Maya said and Carina continued.
"What you'r dad did was not right bambina. And he is going away for a while because of it. Maya and I were wondering if you'd like to come home with us for now."
Carina had finished speaking and I was speechless. They both seemed so nice and safe and they want a brat like me in their home?
"Are you sure?" I asked, to give them the chance to change their minds, just in case. I looked back and forth between them.
"Absolutely." Maya said while smiling kindly.
"Would you like that?" Carina asked.
I just nodded my head, completely overwhelmed by the situation.

We headed to their apartment a bit later, after we had talked to the mean lady again.
Carina parked the car in the parking garage and Maya opened the door for me.
She offered her hand for me to take and I gladly did so.
Wd walked up to the apartment together and Carina unlocked the door, holding it open for Maya and me.
"Home sweet home." Maya said as we walked in.

"And this is your room." Carina said after they had given me a little tour. "We couldn't prepare anything but we can go on a little shopping spree in the next couple days and get everything you want." Maya explained, opening the door for me.
It was much bigger than my old room and had a nice, warm feel to it.
They let me settle in a bit and then called me for dinner.
"Is there anything you don't like to eat Elli?" Carina asked me.
"Not really. Except spinach maybe." I answered honestly.
"Okay I'll remember that then." She said as she placed the food on the table.
I ate a little as to not be rude but I wasn't hungry.
They asked me a few questions here and there to get to know me but I couldn't concentrate.
"You know what, it has been a long day. Why don't we all get ready for bed?" Maya suggested.
We got ready and they both came to say good night but Carina turned around before leaving. "If you need anything or just want some company, you know where our room is. Just come find us whenever okay?"
I nodded.
"Va bene." She said and they both gave me a smile before they left.
I curled up into a ball and quietly let out all the emotions of the day until I had cried myself to sleep.
I have never felt safer but it is strange to lay in a bed that doesn't feel like mine.
These two women are basically strangers, although there's nothing I'd like to do more than to crawl into their bed with them and let them hold me.
They're save.
