First night

Ellis PoV:
I woke up and quietly made my way to the window, it was still completely dark outside.
I couldn't fall back asleep so I decided to go wash my face in the bathroom.
That helped sometimes.
I snuck out of my room and past their bedroom into the bathroom, closing the door that connected the two rooms.
When I was done with washing my face and on my way back down the hallway a lamp in Maya and Carinas bedroom room turned on.
"Elli, are you okay sweetie?" I heard Maya asking.
I turned around and stood by their door, looking up at her. She sat in her side of their bed, Carina peacefully sleeping on the other side.
"Can't sleep." I answered honestly.
"Want a sleep over?" She asked smiling softly and opened the covers for me to come lay down.
I looked at Carina and then back at her.
"She won't mind. I promise." She said, as though she could read my mind. 
I gave in and gladly climbed up onto the bed, getting comfortable under the blanket and curling into her. I know I'm too old for this but all I wanted was to feel safe. She put an arm around me and it didn't take long for me to fall back asleep.

Carinas PoV:
I woke up, glad I don't have to go to work today because Maya and I took a few days off to concentrate on Elli.
I turned around to face my wife and was surprised to see we weren't alone.
Maya was peacefully sleeping with the bambina in her arm.
I watched them for a little while and took a photo, capturing the moment. I wouldn't say no to waking up like this every day.
I let them sleep and got up to get started on breakfast.
Deciding on French toast, I got everything ready and was about to go wake them up when I heard the bedroom door open.
Maya came around the corner with Elli on her hip, the little girls arms around the blondes neck, hiding her face in Mayas hair. I realised for the first time how small she was. Way too tiny for her age. She looked more like a seven year old than her actual age.
„Buon giorno. Is someone still tired?" I asked as I walked over, giving Maya a quick kiss and putting my hand on Ellis back.
"Someone didn't want to let me go so I guess we're staying like this for a while" Maya answered with a shrug and a smile.
She sat down with the bambina on her lap and I put the toast in front of them.

Ellis PoV:
I woke up to an empty bed, anxiously looking around, getting upset quickly.
I'm alone. Did they leave?
I was about to start crying when Maya came out of the bathroom.
"Hey sweetie what's wrong?" She asked, coming over to sit on the bed with me.
"I woke up and I was all alone." I replied, speaking the words made me start to cry.
"Oh honey, it's okay. I'm right here and Carina is probably in the kitchen." She said wrapping me into a hug.
I noticed her wanting to stand up after a while but I didn't let go of her.
"Can I carry you sweetie?" She asked and I nodded so she scooped me up and settled me on her hip.
We walked out into the kitchen where Carina greeted us. I didn't look up at her, embarrassed for being such a baby.
Maya sat down with me on her lap.
"Don't you want to sit on your own chair honey?" Maya asked after a moment of silence. I shook my head and held onto her hair even tighter.
"Ah ah, no pulling hair Elli." She said and reached for my hand.
I immediately pulled back.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to, I swear." I blurted out, so scared of her being mad at me.
Maya grabbed my hands and held them to her chest.
"I know, I know you didn't sweetie. It's ok you didn't hurt me."
I relaxed a little and calmed down.
Carina came to sit at the table with us.
"Bambina, I made my famous french toast. Can you turn around for me and try to eat a little?" She asked in her signature calm voice.
"I can try." I replied and turned around on Mayas lap, my legs on ether side of hers.
"That's all I'm asking." Carina said.
Maya and Carina talked about random work stuff as I tried to be good and eat what was on the table but after two bites I couldn't get anything else down.
It's not that it didn't taste good. It was absolutely delicious but my body was not about to finish the whole thing.
„Elli can you eat a little more for me please?" Carina asked nicely.
I picked up the fork again, really not wanting to disappoint or disrespect her.
I ate one more piece and really started to feel sick. Everything was so overwhelming I just couldn't eat anything else.
„No more?" Maya asked and I shook my head.
This usually means no lunch.
If you can't finish breakfast there's no reason for being hungry at lunch time. That's what my dad always said.
I rarely had lunch back home because my stomach doesn't handle breakfast very well.

Maya and Carina finished their food before Maya left to take a shower.
„May I leave the table?" I asked, hoping I could go lay down a little.
„Of course you can bambina. But you don't have to ask okay?" Carina answered.
I nodded and went to lay down on the couch, falling asleep shortly after, still exhausted from yesterday.

Mayas PoV:
When Carina first told me about taking Elli in I was honestly very sceptical but her coming to sleep in our bed tonight felt so natural and easy. Like it's been this way forever.
I stepped out of the shower and put on my bathrobe before stepping into our bedroom. Carina was changing out of her pyjamas and into a comfy outfit.
„Hello there beautiful."
I said, snaking my arms around her waist from behind and pulling her close. She jumped a little, apparently not having heard me come in.
„Dio mio!" She breathed out, clutching her chest. "You scared me." She added, laughing lightly and turning around to face me.
"I'm sorry my love." I laughed.
"No you're not." She protested.
"Okay. No I'm not." I admitted with a grin, kissing her lips.
We both continued getting ready after a few more loving kisses.
"Where's Elora?" I asked while putting my hair up in a ponytail.
"She's asleep on the couch." She answered.
"Again? We just got up." I was surprised.
"Sí. I guess she needs the rest.
Now that we're talking about her, did you notice how small she is for her age?" She now asked with a concerned expression.
"She's a little short but I honestly don't know what a kid her age is supposed to look like." I answered honestly.
"Well, she's not just too short but also too skinny. I'm afraid she might not have gotten enough food at home." Carina voiced her concern.
"She'll get all the food she wants from now on okay?" I sat down on the bed next to her and put my arm over her shoulder.
She nodded with a sad smile.
"Now let's get up and see what fun things we can do with the little princess today."
I said excitedly and pulled her up. She couldn't help but smile at that thought.
