Rose
It was a pretty day, warmer than usual, why not take advantage of it? Was I putting myself in some sort of danger? Yes. Was there a possibility of losing my job? Also yes. But I have observed how Felix has made progress in the last couple of months and this my reward for him, for the fact that he actually tried.
It was around 3pm, he comes for therapy around this time and this is also when I’m taking him outside. I was pretty excited for the whole thing, I don’t know why but nevertheless I was.
I heard the door click open and I was greeted by a somewhat grumpy Felix that was dragging his feet to the sofa closer to the door. His black hair was now longer, in need of a trim but I liked how it looked on him, just a bit longer. His skin was the same pale shade like it was on the day when I first saw him, not a flaw on it, just a tiny mole on his left cheek, close to his nose. How could someone say that he is a murderer? Commited arson? I have to pull myself together. I had no idea if those things were true but if they were, then I couldn’t let myself see him as innocent. It was just like blindfolding myself from seeing his problems and needs, leading to a dezastrous outcome for the both of us.
“You been spacing out princess.” He stated with his deep husky voice.
“Yeah, just in my head, sorry.” I sat on the window ledge and was now looking towards him. “How have you been?”
“You see me every day…” he groans.
“Drop the attitude.” I raise my eyebrow at him.
“I don’t know, I don’t feel that good today…almost as if I’m being sad…?” He said a bit confused, trying to explain the way he is feeling.
I smiled, remembering my plan.
“In that case Felix, I have a plan.” I said in a somewhat mischievous tone.
“I’m not taking a double dose.” He argued, his head on the couch.
“Not that. Do you have anything on you, like glasses or a hat?” I asked.
“They took everything, fearing I might use them as ‘weapons’.” He stated.
I went ahead and searched for what I was looking for around the room, I had to have something that I could use to somewhat disguise him so that I wouldn’t get into trouble from the first time.
He got curious and twisted his body so he could see me behind the sofa.
“What are you even doing? Did they give you my meds too?”
I turned with a black bucket hat in my hand and a plaid shirt, smiling at him.
“No Felix. Today is the day you’re going to see the world.”
“I saw the world before. I wasn’t here since forever, you know…had a life.” He sassed me back.
“I mean that you are going outside. I’m taking you on a walk, try something new, get fresh air, all that stuff.” I said as I approached the couch. “Here put this on. I don’t want to get in trouble.” I tossed the items next to him.
He inspected them like the curious cat he was. He was always doing this. With his foods, meds, whatever his hands touched, he was inspecting it.
“Ok fine. Seems like we’re going out.” He gave in as he put the bucket hat on his head.
“Be quick, we have 7 minutes until your guards change.” I urged him on as I took my phone and hospital ID with me.
He started to pull the shirt on him and put his bucket hat on. Felix then went in front of the mirror that I had put up next to the door.
