I'm heading over to Nora's house to help her finish her costume. I went home to take a shower and grab a change of clothes for tomorrow.
Once I get there I knock a few times before heading in knowing no one will answer the door. I hear muffled arguing coming from the kitchen as I take my shoes off. I decide not to eavesdrop and head up to Nora's room.
I knock once before opening the door, she has her headphones on while reading a book. I wave, trying to get her attention so I don't scare her. She glances up at me, a smile forming on her lips.
I close her door and head over to her bed, laying beside her. "Watcha reading?" I ask taking the book from her. "No clue I kept re reading the same sentence over and over again, i'm not very good on the whole multi tasking thing." She says putting her headphones back in their case.
"I could've told you that." I say as I sit up and cross my legs. I know she was trying to drown out her parents but i'm not going to talk to her about it until she's ready. "So, how close are you to finishing your costume?" I ask while flicking a crumb off my leg, she's not the cleanest person in the world.
"Funny of you to ask that cause... I haven't started." She says covering her head with her blanket. My eyes bulge out of my head as I process what she said. "NORA! Why haven't you started?! Mine took days to finish, how are we going to finish this in one day?!" I ask as I get off her bed and start pacing back and forth.
"I don't know! I just got distracted with... everything and my costume was the last thing on my mind." She says as she plucks the feathers out of her pillow. I sigh, she looks so sad. "I think we are going to need more than just our hands to get this done." I say.
"I could invite the group over?"She asks as she grabs her phone from her nightstand. I nod my head as I grab the grocery sack that has the stuff for her costume in. "I'll get started while you call them." I say sitting on her floor, this is going to be a long night.
Twenty minutes have gone by and I've burned myself three different times with the hot glue gun. Nora has been watching me and giving me things when I need it, I knew it was going to be like this but i'm not complaining, at least she's helping.
"Okay, give me the feathers." I say holding out my hand. "Okay... uh... where... I thought I just saw them." She says looking around her. I roll my eyes as they are right next to her. "Right there, by your hip." I say pointing at them.
She continues to some how not see them. "Nora, right the- Nevermind i'll get it." I say getting on my knees and reaching over to get it. "Oh, found them." She says bending over to grab them. I look up and realize our faces our inches from each other.
The door flies open, Vinnie and Grayson standing at the door frame. "Uh, what are you guys doing?" Vinnie asks, looking at how close we are. I clear my throat and grab the feathers before sitting back down.
"Just needed these." I say getting back to work. "Thanks for knocking." Nora says sarcastically. "Welcome, now what do you guys need help with?" Vinnie asks sitting down next to Nora. "We need to make Nora's costume by tomorrow and we won't get done with just the two of us." I say cutting some fabric.
Grayson grabs Nora's bean bag chair and sits down next to me. "What do you want me to do?" He asks watching me stick feathers on a mask. "You can glue stuff together." I say giving him the glue gun, i'm tired of getting burned every five seconds.
"Where did you go yesterday?" I ask, it's been bothering me and he never answered me back. He's quiet for a minute as he puts glue at the end of the feather. "Just had some stuff that needed to get done." He says.
"What kind of stuff?" I push. I know I shouldn't but I have this nagging feeling it's something bad. He looks at me, no warmth in his eyes. "Stuff, just drop it." He snips. "Sorry I forgot to warn you, it's his time of the month." Vinnie says trying to lighten the mood. Grayson just rolls his eyes as he plays with a bottle of sparkles.
