"Police are baffled by the escalating murder and disappearances," a reporter says over the tv.
Athena is lain across Jasper and Rosalie while watching the news and Emmett is draped across the other end of the couch. Bella and Edward enter the room as the reporter says...
"Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer... Reporting live, Dawn Chubai, CNN."
"It's getting worse," Carlisle says. "We're going to have to do something."
"It takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they're reporting," Jasper chimes in. "Quite a few more. They're undisciplined, conspicuous..."
"Newborns," Edward murmurs, reading Jasper's mind.
"What, like new vampires?" Bella asks.
"In their first few months after the change," Edward says.
"That's when we're at our most uncontrollable, vicious, insane with thirst," Jasper says.
"Something to look forward to," Emmett teases and Rosalie rolls her eyes and she walks out of the room.
"No one has trained these newborns," Jasper says, "but this isn't random."
Carlisle soon comes to the same conclusion. "Someone's creating an army," he says.
Jasper nods his head in confirmation.
Emmett rises enthusiastically. "Oh, now we're definitely going to Seattle," he boasts.
"An army of vampires?" Bella squeaks.
"And they've been created to fight someone," Jasper adds.
"We're the closest clan even close to Seattle," Edward states.
"Regardless, if we don't put a stop to them, the Volturi will," cwrlisle says. "I'm surprised they let it go on this long."
"They've probably sent guards to Seattle," Athena says when Edward asks her, he knows she's still close to her creator. "They're probably keeping an eye in things and if they sent the one I'm thinking, she's probably having fun watching, probably hoping this coven will die. One less problem to deal with. The Kings are probably being informed that the problem is under control when it's really not."
"We can't wait two weeks for graduation," Bella says after a moment as she takes this in. "You need to change me now..."
"You'd be a liability as a newborn," Jasper interrupts. "Unable to control your instincts. An easy target."
Carlisle puts an empathetic hand on Bella's shoulder. "There is also your father to consider," he says. "And your mother. How terrible would it be for them if you suddenly disappeared?"
Bella's quiet, unable to argue with the man. She stands there quietly and she considers other options.
