Athena (L. Clearwater)

Chapter Thirty-Four

Bella and Edward come back to the house the next day.

"Where's Rhesus?" Bella asks.

"Athena and Leah have him upstairs," Jacob replies. "He was asleep a second ago, lying in between them."

Bella smiles at the thought.

"Break a lot of stuff?" Emmett teases as Jacob listens for Rhesus.

"Emmett, no," Bella scolds and everyone chuckles and then the phone rings. "Is that Charlie?"

"He's been calling twice a day," Edward says.

Meanwhile upstairs...

"If they leave, would you?" Leah asks after Jacob storms out.

"Not without you," Athena replies as she gently brushes the messy blonde hair out of Rhesus's face. "I want to travel the world with you, bring you to places you've never been, teach you the languages I know, have a family."

Leah smiles and Rhesus whines until he grabs onto Athena's finger and giggles.

"I'll go get him some food," Leah says and she leaves. 

"Hi, Rhesus," Athena coos and the baby looks at her. "You look like your dad, just with your mom's eyes."

"He does look like me, doesn't he?" Edward asks from the doorway as he brings her the bottle, its baby milk and blood mixed. "Leah's talking to Seth."

Athena nods and she moves Rhesus to her lap and feeds him. She starts humming a Greek tune and Edward sits with her.

"Do you need a donor?" he asks. "For you and Leah?"

"I was gonna ask Jasper, but if you want to," Athena says. "I want a Texan, and Leah likes him better than you because I was never in love with Jasper."

"That might be a better choice," he says. "Your baby would have green eyes, either way," Edward says. His eyes were brown when he was human.

Edward hears Jacob come back and he hears his thoughts. "Keep him up here," he says. "I'm gonna go yell at Jacob for shifting in front of Charlie." He kisses his son's head and he rushes out and Leah rejoins her.

"I'll yell at Jacob after Edward and Bella," Leah says. "Jasper stopped me on my way up. He said he'd donate to you whenever you're ready for a baby."

Athena nods. "Thanks, Jasper."

"You're welcome," Jasper replies softly.

Leah watches as Athena gets Rhesus to burp and she smiles as she starts playing with the baby.
